Top Ten Celebrity Divorces
14th Apr 07
Forbes Magazine has compiled a list of the 10 most expensive celebrity divorces in history.

All the money is going from the man to the woman. Discuss. And why isn't Princess Diana on the list?

1. Neil Diamond & Marcia Murphey - $150 Million
2. Michael & Juanita Jordan - $150 Million
3. Steven Spielberg & Amy Irving - $100 Million
4. Harrison Ford & Melissa Mathison - $85 Million
5. Kevin Costner & Cindy Silva - $80 Million
6. Paul McCartney & Heather Mills - $60 Million
7. James Cameron & Linda Hamilton - $50 Million
8. Michael & Diandra Douglas - $45 Million
9. Lionel & Diane Richie - $20 Million
10. Mick Jagger & Jerry Hall - $15 Million

#10
Mick Jagger & Jerry Hall
Estimated settlement: $15-$25 million
The Rolling Stones rocker and Texas supermodel met in 1977 and had two children together before marrying in a traditional Hindi wedding ceremony in Bali in 1990. Hall filed for divorce in 1999 after learning that Jagger had fathered another woman’s child. Jagger, worth an estimated $325 million at the time, successfully challenged the legality of the Balinese wedding and received an annulment. Hall walked away with between $15 and $25 million, a fraction of Jagger’s estate.

#9
Lionel & Diane Richie
Estimated settlement: $20 million
Richie, then 36 and married, met the 18-year old backup dancer at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Richie, divorced from his first wife in 1993, married Diane by 1996. The Richies became tabloid favorites when Diane filed for divorce in 2004 and detailed their lavish lifestyle in her alimony petition. Among her claims: a monthly clothing allowance of $15,000, $50,000 a month for manicures, massages and other personal services, and a plastic surgery budget of $20,000 a year.

#8
Michael & Diandra Douglas
Estimated settlement: $45 million
Douglas met 19-year old Georgetown co-ed Diandra Luker in 1977 at a Jimmy Carter inauguration party. They married six weeks later. During the course of the marriage, Douglass became one of Hollywood’s top earning actors, starring in classics like Fatal Attraction, Wall Street and Basic Instinct. Amidst rumors of the actor’s infidelities and alcohol abuse, the couple split in 1998. Diandra was awarded an estimated $45 million, plus homes in Beverly Hills and Majorca.

#7
James Cameron & Linda Hamilton
Estimated settlement: $50 million
The Titanic director married the Terminator actress in July 1997. They had one daughter together before the marriage tanked 18 months later. Cameron received some $100 million from Paramount for Titanic (which grossed the studio $1.8 billion). Hamilton received half that, an estimated $50 million, in the divorce settlement.

#6
Paul McCartney & Heather Mills
Settlement pending: Possibly more than $60 million
In 2002, the former Beatle wed Mills, a model-activist 30 years his junior. McCartney reportedly shunned Mills’ offer of a prenup. By 2006 the pair, who have one child together, split acrimoniously. She accused him of assault; he locked her out of their London home. Rumors of a settlement suggest Mills may get in excess of $60 million—McCartney’s is worth an estimated $700 million.

#5
Kevin Costner & Cindy Silva
Estimated settlement: $80 million
The pair, who met at California State University, wed in 1978. During their 16-year marriage, Costner became one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors, scoring 7 Oscars for Dances with Wolves, and starring in iconic films like Bull Durham and Field of Dreams. Costner pocketed $50 million in 1991 alone. Because Silva was married to Costner during his peak earning years, she was awarded $80 million, a substantial piece of his net worth.

#4
Harrison Ford & Melissa Mathison
Estimated settlement: $85 million
The couple met in 1977 at a dinner with casting director Fred Roos (American Graffiti) and wed in 1983. Six years later Ford was one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors when he banked $7 million for Presumed Innocent. By 1995, he was making $20 million a film. The couple divorced in 2004. In addition to her divorce settlement, Mathison negotiated a piece of Ford’s future earnings from films he made while married, including DVD sales of the Indiana Jones trilogy and The Fugitive.

#3
Steven Spielberg & Amy Irving
Estimated settlement: $100 million
The couple met when Irving auditioned for Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). They married in 1985, after Spielberg had already struck it big with his first Indiana Jones flick and ET. Divorced after nearly four years of marriage. Irving successfully contested their prenup (reportedly scribbled on a napkin) because she did not have legal representation and was awarded $100 million, roughly half of Spielberg’s fortune at the time. Today he is worth $3 billion.

#2
Neil Diamond & Marcia Murphey
Estimated settlement: $150 million
The crooner married Murphey, a television production assistant, in 1969, before he released his first gold record, Touching You, Touching Me. By the late '70s, Diamond was one of the most successful musicians in showbiz, grossing upwards of $14 million annually. After 25 years of marriage, Murphey filed for divorce in 1994 citing irreconcilable differences. She walked away with half of Diamond’s fortune—she’s “worth every penny” he later said.

#1
Michael & Juanita Jordan
Settlement pending: Possibly more than $150 million
The legendary basketballer married Juanita Vanoy, a Chicago bank officer, in 1989. He had already signed an 8-year $25 million contract with the Bulls. He also was earning another $30 million a year from Nike and other endorsement deals. She filed for divorce last year. Over the course of the marriage, Jordan earned over $350 million. Should Juanita press for half of his assets, she could get more than $150 million in the settlement, making the Jordan divorce the most expensive in entertainment history.

Jude Law Honoured As Hollywood's Biggest Love Rat.

Jude Law Honoured As Hollywood's Biggest Love Rat....

Actor Jude Law won't be thrilled with his latest 'award' - his tryst with his children's nanny Daisy Wright while he was dating Sienna Miller has been named Hollywood's sneakiest affair.

The Cold Mountain actor's affair topped the US magazine poll - and he was closely followed by Billy Crudup who came second for leaving his pregnant girlfriend Mary-Louise Parker for fellow actress Claire Danes.

Keith Urban, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, and Meg Ryan all received the dubious honour of making the top 10.

British singer JAMES BLUNT has narrowly escaped criminal charges for an alleged hit and run incident at a Hollywood party earlier this year

The You're Beautiful singer and his then-girlfriend Petra Nemcova were leaving a party at Hollywood agent BRYAN LOURD's house when Blunt reportedly drove his black SUV over the leg of an autograph seeker.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles city attorney's office says, "We've decided not to file any charges. We reserve the right to file charges at any time."

CHARLOTTE CHURCH HAILS "CLEVER" JORDAN

Singer turned television presenter Charlotte Church reckons glamour model Jordan is the cleverest celebrity guest to appear on her Channel 4 chat show.

Jordan, real name Katie Price, was one of the last guests on the Charlotte Church Show's second series, which has now finished to give its pregnant star a break.

And Church, 21, reflecting on Jordan's stint on her show, describes the model as "so clever, so unbelievably clever".

"When Jordan came on she was fabulous," she said.

"This series has been brilliant, to be fair.

"I've had some really good guests. And it's been a lot more concise and less 'out there' than the first," the Welsh singer continued.

Regarding her time off from presenting duties ahead of the expected autumn birth of her and partner Gavin Henson's baby, Church added: "I'm probably going to do bugger all with my time constructively, just sit on the sofa."

Sheen Settles TV Show Lawsuit - April 15 2007

Actor Charlie Sheen has settled a lawsuit against him by a woman who claimed that on of the characters in his television show Two And A Half Men was based on her.

In April last year, Ursula Auburn had sued the US actor claiming that the "wacky neighbour and female stalker Rose" on the show was based on her. The way Rose talks, dresses and looks all resemble Auburn, the lawsuit said.

Sheen never sought Auburn's permission, according to the court papers.

The lawsuit said there were numerous situations on the show involving Rose and Sheen's character, Charlie Harper, that resembled experiences Auburn had with the actor. That included an episode in which Rose creates a website detailing Harper's womanising ways, according to the suit.

In real life, Auburn created a website detailing her relationship with Sheen.

Beckhams Try To Block Sky Show - April 15 2007

Victoria and David Beckham are seeking court action to prevent Sky One screening a programme in which their look-alikes were filmed trying to blag freebies in Los Angeles.

Andy Harmer and Camilla Shadholt, professional Posh and Becks impersonators, used their "celebrity" status to obtain free dining at the exclusive Ivy restaurant, test drive a Lamborghini and tricked a boutique into giving them a £9000 pearl necklace.

More than 30 press photographers were duped into following the pair around Beverly Hills.

Sky has confirmed that a request to stop the broadcast has been received.

Robert Redford Launches Green Channel - April 15 2007

Robert Redford is launching what is called the first green television channel.

The Green starts transmitting on Tuesday on Redford's Sundance Channel. The channel will include a range of programme series and documentaries about the planet as well as ideas for sustainable green living.

Redford said that he believes that America responds better to positive suggestions on how to improve the environment rather than the doomsday scenarios painted by environmentalists of the past.

The veteran actor said he was pleased with the current wave of environmentalism and attention given to environmental issues by the media but that he had waited for a long time to see the trend develop and become strong.

Ferry apologises for pro-Nazi statement
16/04/2007

Singer Bryan Ferry apologised "unreservedly" today for his comments about the Nazis.

The star reportedly described the regime as "just amazing" during an interview.

A statement released on Ferry's behalf said he was "deeply upset" by the publicity concerning himself and Nazi Germany.

It continued: "I apologise unreservedly for any offence caused by my comments on Nazi iconography, which were solely made from an art history perspective.

"I, like every right-minded individual, find the Nazi regime, and all it stood for, evil and abhorrent."

The Roxy Music singer reportedly revealed he calls his West London studio his Fuhrerbunker, a title associated with Hitler's headquarters.

He reportedly said: "The Nazis knew how to put themselves in the limelight and present themselves.

"Leni Riefenstahl's movies and Albert Speer's buildings and the mass parades and the flags - just amazing. Really beautiful."

The comments were said to have been made to German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

Calls were made for Marks & Spencer, for whom he models clothes and which historically has Jewish links, to re-think their contract with him.

Labour peer Lord Janner of Braunstone QC, who campaigns on behalf of those affected by the Holocaust, said he hoped Marks & Spencer would deal with the matter appropriately and identify with Ferry's apology.

The Cardiff-born 78-year-old said: "I am very pleased that he has apologised.

"I trust that he will never make the same mistake again."

He said it was "100%" right that the 61-year-old singer should have said sorry, adding: "It does not wipe out what he did.

"What matters is that he has apologised."

Lord Janner is formerly President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the main representative body of British Jewry and works to achieve compensation and restitution for Holocaust victims.

When asked about Ferry's remarks and his subsequent apology, Marks & Spencer said it did not give its opinions on views that were expressed by people in other situations.

A spokeswoman for the company would not comment when asked whether it planned to review Ferry's contract. breakingnews

Squeeze launch reunion tour in US
16/04/2007

Reformed British pop supergroup Squeeze will launch a comeback tour in America.

The Labelled With Love band announced plans to reunite for a British tour last month, and now they are taking the reunion dates to America, where they scored a handful of hits in the 80s.

The US reunion will not include keyboard player Jools Holland as he already has performance commitments with his own band.

The band, led by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, will perform 12 shows in North America, beginning in Massachusetts on July 31.

The tour will mark the first time Difford and Tilbrook have performed together since 1998.

Cool For Cats singer Difford, who quit Squeeze and checked himself into a rehab facility to combat alcoholism on the eve of a 1999 US tour, said: "I'm really looking forward to doing some shows with Glenn."

The US dates will be the group's first. The UK tour is set to start in November.

The Force not with Lucas in celebrity race
16/04/2007

Star Wars creator George Lucas had a smashing time at the Toyota Pro-Celebrity Race in Long Beach, California on Saturday when he collided with CSI: Miami star Emily Procter.

Procter's car slammed into the front of Lucas' during the pre-Long Beach Grand Prix festivities, pinning the movie mogul against a wall.

Lucas was subdued after the race, telling reporters: "I should have just let her go by me."

X-Men 2 star Kelly Hu (as Deathstrike), who watched the crash from the car behind, said: "George passed me right before he crashed. It was a little hairy."

Hu felt the celebrity race was a little too "aggressive", adding: "I got schooled."

Hu had crashed in a qualifying session.

Other celebrities involved in the race included US soap star Joshua Morrow and Martina Navratilova. BMX champion Dave Mirra won the race.

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner served as the celebrity challenge's Grand Marshall. breakungnews
