Eastwood lands Spirit award

20/04/2007
Clint Eastwood will become the third recipient of the Spirit Of Independence Award at June's Film Independent Awards.

The moviemaker will be honoured by crooner Tony Bennett, the subject of Eastwood's latest film project 'Tony Bennett: The Music Never Ends', providing the singer has recovered from his recent bout of illness.

The 'Dirty Harry' star is the executive producer of the film.

George Clooney claimed the first Spirit award in 2005 and Charlize Theron was honoured last year. eecho

Justin: Biggest Ego

Musical genius, great dancer and amazing looking are just some of the things Justin Timberlake may say about himself.

But he has been named the biggest ego in Hollywood.

And is it any wonder... Justin even claimed that McDonald's shares rose 25 per cent when he walked into its offices, said Us Weekly.

He really does seem to think a lot of himself.

And whilst there's no denying Mr Timberlake has his appeal... there's no bigger turn off than an egomaniac.

Check out the other celebs on the mag's Egometer and see how they fared in the gallery above. Sky

What is a molly?

Jordan, she of the comedy breasts and even more more humorous husband, has attacked Liz Hurley for dressing her son like "a molly". She went on to promise that she would not molly-fy (so to speak) her own son. "I like to keep him trendy - I don't want him to be a molly. I think that must be a Brighton term," she announced to Heat magazine, with a mixture of pride and indignation.

Molly has many meanings in the UK. In the north-east it is used to insult those who were once called "square". In south London I have heard it join a litany of other words used to abuse and intimidate gay men. However, Jordan was right when she claimed that her use of the word was specific to Brighton. I should know - I have lived in Brighton for the past 12 years, and am now married to a woman who was born here. Down on the beach, "molly" is an insult bandied about by schoolchildren, and refers to those kids who, for reasons of sartorial self-neglect or simple, contemptible poverty, look as if their mothers have dressed them. Or, to quote my wife: "The girls who called other girls mollies were the cool kids. The mollies always wore tweedy old knickers and your great-granny's stuff." The root of the word is, apparently, "mollycoddled".

We should be thankful to Jordan (who I have interviewed twice) for keeping ancient east Sussex dialect alive. Her other favourite word is "doughnut", which, in the context she uses it, refers to anyone more stupid than her. Thus, when she is not accompanied by Peter Andre, it is almost never employed.

This, after all, is a woman who, having shown no knowledge whatsoever of the contents of her two autobiographies, revealed herself to be someone who has written two more books than she has likely read.

Bra-less celebs pop out to play

YESTERDAY I bought you this picture of CAMERON DIAZ emerging from the gym obviously chilly and not wearing a bra.

But she is far from the first celeb to flaunt her assets without the proper support.

Smaller boobed ladies like TARA PALMER-TOMKINSON may think they can get away with it, but there is always a danger of revealing more than intended.

As for Big Brother reject AISLEYNE HORGAN-WALLACE, she ought to be careful she doesn't have someone's eyes out.

I hope he gets syphilis and dies

SHARON OSBOURNE'S big mouth has struck again - this time singling out QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE frontman JOSH HOMME for a viscous attack.

To be fair Josh did start the row, by slating her family's annual heavy metal music festival.
He said he would never play The Ozzfest again because "they treat the bands like s***".

But even that attack surely didn't deserve the foul-mouthed response Sharon dished out.

The outgoing face of Asda told a magazine: "I hope he gets syphilis and dies. I hope his d*** f***ing falls off so his mother can eat it."

And I thought she was supposed to be the nice one on X Factor.

Nell and Kara hope for marathon joy

EastEnders star Kara Tointon and model Nell McAndrew are two of the famous faces hoping for success at the London Marathon this weekend.

The pair showed they were up for the gruelling 26-mile challenge at a photocall near Tower Bridge in central London on Friday.

Both are hoping to do better than fallen Big Brother star Jade Goody, a celebrity runner last year who admitted not training properly and feasting on Chinese meals and curry after failing to complete the course.
