GREASE SHOOK UP
By Rory Smith
TELLY bosses will tonight give Grease Is The Word a shake, rattle and roll - by splitting up the show's couples.

The 10 wannabe West End stars have been performing with the same partner since the final stages started, so when Judge David Ian broke the news to the potential Dannys and Sandys during rehearsals this week it came as a nasty shock. And we can exclusively reveal that Danny-wannabe Anthony almost quit...

"I can't believe they've just thrown this on us. I feel like walking out of this competition right now," complained Anthony.

His partner Alison, who's rumoured to have developed a crush on Anthony, was equally upset. Bradley, too, was distraught and burst into tears, saying: "I don't want to lose Michelle, there's no one quite like her."

But the decision was made by producers who feel the pairs' chemistry is not working. "This shake-up is to get people out of their comfort zones," David tells us.

"It's about having the confidence and chemistry to work with anyone and make it believable.

This is more than a talent contest. The two that win have to be up to the job."

TV GREASE CHIEFS GET SLIPPERY..

GREASE Is The Word bosses stunned viewers and contestants last night - by announcing pairs are to be split up.

Boys and girls will be separated into camps.

Next week's ITV show will feature a double eviction for the boys, and the following week two girls will leave.

Bradley Clarkson, 25, and Lauren Mc-Connell, 16, were booted out by viewers last night.

The show is looking for two new stars for July's opening of the musical Grease.

Judge David Ian said: "They must stand out from the crowd. You didn't." people

Phew! I'm so glad Bradley & Lauren went over Alison (in particular) & Danny R.

Danny B & Michelle were the best on the night. It's amazing what a change in partner can do....Michelle and Danny R gave their best performance to date.IMO I think Alison is the motivator in her partnerships, she brings out the best in them. I agree with the judges, there was no chemistry between Anthony and Nicky - likewise Susan & Michael but Susan sang as well as ever.

Seems to me, all the judges like Michelle - I think they all want her to be Sandy.

Yes I agree, it is amazing what a change of partner can do. I agree with your Alison comment. Also, that there was no chemistry between Anthony and Vicki and yes, I think that the judges want Michelle to be Sandy as well.

And Brian Friedman's blouse was awful!! It was the fist thing I commented on as soon as he appeared.

TORTURE OVER NURTURE
KEVIN O'SULLIVAN
SO it's official. Grease Is The Word is the one that we don't want. Ooh ooh ooh! What a breath of fresh air Simon Cowell is to admit his shabby show is a load of copycat rubbish.

Simon, mate... you should have put yourself in it. And definitely NOT your bizarrely-dressed bosom-buddy um, er, what was I going to say... Sinitta.

ITV's search for Sandy and Danny lacks the telly X Factor. It's unexciting, no-one seems to care very much - and the entire production is based on the stupidly incorrect premise that Grease is "the world's greatest musical".

The world's most dated musical, more like. Never mind - it's still a must for Shakin' Stevens fans.

Judge David Gest is an entertaining guy. Wasted on this garbage.

"I think there was quite a lot of disappointment tonight," sighed Gest's dismayed fellow panellist David Ian after another dismally-dull Saturdaynight marathon showcased a gaggle of charisma-free wannabes.

Frankly, towering above all the crummy contestants, huge host Zoe Ball has turned the whole monotonous affair into one more round of same, same, same reality tedium.

And, after starting out cruelly taunting the delusional no-hopers, GITW has dwindled into a repetitive weekly dirge.

GREASE IS £5M HIT

GREASE Is The Word claims it is winning the battle of the stage shows with Any Dream Will Do.

Despite the ITV show's ratings being two million behind the Beeb's rival hunt for a new Joseph, hosted by Graham Norton, the Grease box office has already sold 100,000 tickets worth £5million. An ITV source said: "We might be behind in the ratings but our sales are best."

A Joseph spokesman said: "Our show will last longer." Both musicals open in the West End in July.

Personally I would have preferred that Michael had stayed rather than Anthony.

Anthony has the looks and can sing well and he danced well last night, but I just think that he won't have the stamina required to perform 8 shows a week. I also think that he would probably keep forgetting his lines. He doesn't seem to be healthy enough and the fact that he smokes doesn't help either I think. I can just see him being ill all the while, like he's got a cold now.

I really hope that people don't vote for Anthony to win, just because he is good looking and likeable, because I don't think he is the right man for the job.

Out of the girls small performance last night, I thought that Susan really shone through above the rest of them, but we shall get a better view of them next week.

Danger, onstage smoking kills. . .

WHEN the musical Grease opens in London’s West End this summer, and the teenage sweetheart Sandy draws on a symbolic cigarette, warning notices will be in place around the theatre alerting the audience to the danger she poses.

Theatres throughout England may have to post similar signs at every performance in which somebody lights up.

The West End theatres fought successfully to win an exemption for actors from the ban on smoking in public places, which becomes law on July 1. But some are now concerned that onstage smoking may draw complaints from the audience. The London theatre owners are to meet officials from the Department of Health early next month to resolve the issue.
