Church: God Isn't Punishing Jade
The Church of England has moved to reassure Jade Goody that God is not punishing her over the Celebrity Big Brother race row.
Goody had said she feared her recent miscarriage was "God's punishment".
The reality TV star was 12-weeks pregnant when she lost the baby she was expecting with boyfriend Jack Tweed last month.
She told Closer magazine: "After the miscarriage I did ask: 'Why is all this happening?' I thought it was God's punishment for something I'd done.
"This year it's been one thing after another. But after losing the baby I thought I'd never recover."
But the Bishop of Croydon, the Rt Rev Nick Baines, said in a statement: "Jade Goody can be sure that losing her baby wasn't a punishment from God.
"God doesn't punish people. He stands by them and shares in their suffering as we see in Jesus Christ."
Goody's career nosedived after she left the CBB house in disgrace following the race row involving Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty.
Her best-selling perfume and autobiography were withdrawn from sale.
She told the magazine she had "no one to blame but myself" for her problems.
Her alleged racist bullying of Bollywood star Shetty caused an international storm, with protesters in India burning effigies of Goody.
She visited India after the end of Celebrity Big Brother - which was won by Shetty - in an effort to make amends for her alleged racism.
