This one may suit you Cameron:

Meet the 200mph VW Golf

Image

Ferrari drivers beware: the hottest of hot hatches could be coming to humiliate you horridly as you rev up at the lights.

For, with a top speed of more than 200mph, the beast that is the new Volkswagen Golf GTi W12 can outaccelerate speedsters such as a Porsche or Lamborghini – and can leave a fuming Ferrari for dead (on the race-track, not the road, if you please).

The Blairs' new car 'is one of the worst on the road'

It is the family car chosen by Tony and Cherie Blair for life after Downing Street.

But a report by consumer watchdogs suggests they might have done better to steer clear of it.

They have named the Blairs' Chrysler Grand Voyager people carrier as one of the worst new cars on the road.

The gas-guzzling American-made seven-seater was picked out in the report by the magazine Which? Car as one of three new vehicles "with such poor safety ratings they should be avoided".

Euro law-makers want to crack down on top speeds, set much tougher CO2 emissions
regulations and rapidly ramp up a pan-European road tolling system, according to
a report in this week's Autocar magazine.

The EC is currently investigating:

Lowering average CO2 emissions from new cars to 130g/km by 2012 - the average is
currently 160 g/km.

Having an absolute 260g/km CO2 emissions limit - effectively legislating large
cars off the road.

Banning cars capable of speeds over 100mph.

Using electronics to prevent cars exceeding urban speed limits.

Introducing pay per mile road tolls across Europe, using GPS satellites.

'There's a good chance that all of these initiatives will make the statute books
within the next decade and it will change the motoring landscape for good' said
Autocar's Hilton Holloway. 'What EC politicians need to remember though is that
these initiatives will add thousands to the cost of buying and running a new
car. It will also threaten thousands of jobs of people involved in the European
car industry.'

SUMMARY
Building on the reputation of Smart fortwo as a fun drive, the Roadster's low slung body really is a blast to chuck about. It comes with a neat electric softtop and a surprisingly comprehensive array of standard equipment with scope to add further luxuries.

BEHIND THE WHEEL
Everything is within easy reach of the driver and although there's lots of plastic, it all feels well engineered, special and sporty.

COMFORT
The cabin is cosy but head and legroom are fine for all but the very tallest. The ride quality is generally compliant but doesn't offer the motorway comfort of a larger car.

PERFORMANCE
The three-cylinder 698cc turbocharged unit only delivers 80bhp in standard form, but it is enough to have fun, and makes a characterful noise. The sequential automatic gearbox takes some getting used to and can feel rather jerky especially in automatic mode but a lift of the throttle when changing gear eases this.

HANDLING
You sit low, exaggerating the feeling of speed and the compact size and lack of inertia mean it's very agile.

It is definitely time to downgrade my Bug for something smaller. I don't need a car with a two litre engine and it drinks petrol!

I was thinking a Micra or someone else suggested an Aygo but haven't started looking yet.

That is a gorgeous looking car Cameron. I know nothing about cars, as has become obvious to me reading the article above about Crysler Grand Voyagers, which is what I drive. Do you know of any cute looking sports cars , like the one in the pic, with 4 seats, that are affordable?
