ZOE Birkett matter-of-factly lets slip that, as a Mother's Day present this year, she bought her mum's house for her.

She may not be the household name she was in 2001, when the first series of Pop Idol put her before a TV audience of millions every Saturday night, but it seems life is still treating Birkett well.

The breathless recitation of her career highlights suggest she has made the most of being catapulted into the entertainment business.
