Dumped

Channel 4 screens a new reality series with a difference, starting on Sunday September 2.

Eleven people take part in what is described by Channel 4 as the "ultimate eco-challenge".

The contestants will spend three weeks at their new home in the middle of 1,000 tonnes of waste next to an active landfill site.

The contestants know they are taking part in a eco show but have no idea of the location.

They have to build their own shelter out of rubbish and are given a pile of food worth £424 - which represents the amount the average British adult throws away each year.

I saw it: thought it was great; quite original - it will be interesting to see how they get on. Aaron's a bit annoying but the rest are OK.

One gripe from me: WHY are reality contestants from Bristol always so pathetic? First Emily gets herself kicked off BB, then Darren (he must be from Bristol, recognise the accent) walks off after a couple of days.

Lightweights. How am I supposed to big up the West Country when everyone keeps letting me down?

Raising a stink

Channel 4's Dumped is a reality TV show that follows 11 middle-class wannabes living, breathing and sleeping rubbish.

And you thought Big Brother had finished on Friday.

The highlight was the start, which, playing on the noble tradition of Survivor and Castaway, opened by letting the freshly-scrubbed eager beavers speculate on where they were going to have to survive for three weeks.

"I think it's going to be somewhere like North Australia or maybe South Africa," trilled one.

"A beach would be good," enthused another.

It turned out to be a rubbish dump just outside Croydon. Unlucky. Their faces were priceless - as anyone's arriving in Croydon would be.

Inevitably, the 11 featured the requisite "part-time model" - Sacha - who obligingly muttered observations on global warming such as: "I've noticed it's getting warmer but I like that because I like the sun anyway."

The narrator revelled in their fate. "They're about to find out what it's like to be dumped," he intoned.

TV Review - Dumped,

As I've been watching Big Brother 8 religiously, I've not been able to stomach any other reality TV.
So last night, in a listings black hole, I ended up taking a chance on Dumped (Channel 4, Tuesday, 9pm) which is a show that features eleven contestants learning how to survive three weeks living on a rubbish dump in south London.

I promise I'll try and avoid puns like 'trashy telly' and 'it's rubbish!'

It ended tonight - there were only four programmes.

It was good and should have been longer - one minute they were in the first week, the next they were two days away from the end!

Good to see some people's attitudes change though, and has challenged me more

Couldn't believe that "ultra-green" Selina drove a bloomin great 3.2 litre Jeep to work though (even if it was LPG), apparently that still made her carbon footprint massive.

Being green is one of those things I was before it became fashionable to be. Likewise maybe it's down to my age but I'm so into it get on my own nerves with it sometimes. :-?

That said I didn't watch the programme. I quite fancied it but I had meetings every night this week and knew I wouldn't have the time.
