I think I'm going to buy an Epson Style R265 which have a printer for CD / DVD discs. I've found what looks like a very good deal that includes the Continuous Inking System (CIS) which uses tanks of ink to continuously feed ink into special cartridges and with 100ml of ink per colour it like having up to 10 cartridge worth of ink for very little money. 6 bottles of ink costs from £7.99 and when to think the Version 2 Epson cartridges (copies) are around £2.50 and upwards it's a good saving.
The deal I found comes with the printer ,the CIS ,and a set of refills for £74.95.

Has anybody used one of these to print onto discs ?
I'm assuming you can do photo quality on to a disc ?
I'm thinking of doing this for the DVD I've been working on as it would look really good as they are given out.

Never tried that one Larry but have heard of it.

I use one of the HP PSC's and they come with 'Lightscribe' for printing on the discs. One of these days I will get around to buying some of the special discs and give it a try :D

I've seen the Philips Lightscribe writers at work but the extra cost of the disks is the off putting thing. As normal DVDs cost from 10 pence and are full face printable hence why I decided to go for an inkjet.

Plus the current project I think will need 50+ copies.
I do like the idea of the ink feeding from tanks rather than changing cartridges and at the current compatible cartridge prices for the version 2 Epson printers it's a much cheaper method. There isn't as big a saving on the version one printers eg my CX6600 combie with the ink as the high capacity cartridges are just over £1.

Version 2 printers are from March 2007 when the chip on the cartridges were changed and are not compatible to the version one cartridges. Though they say the later ones work in the earlier printers.

Larry I have an Epson - a Stylus DX4050, but it is only a printer/scanner. For what it's worth, it's always been good value and I like the fact that the cartridges come separately (pink, yellow, cyan, black). Still seem to spend the same amount of money on them though, as other makes i've had.

Take a look at http://www.ukdvdr.co.uk for cheap cartridges. As I said for my Epson CX6600 printer/scanner/copier it uses 4 cartridges and they are around £1 each and still produce excellent photos.

It's a good site for recordable media (CD/DVD).

This new printer is excellent. If you can imagine putting either a photo or a series of photos directly onto the label side of a disc then that is what you get. And it's easy to use.

Click on the icon for the software for the CD section to create your image. Insert the disc into the tray and align it and press print in the software. Think it takes between 30 secs to a minute and you have photographic professional looking discs.

Plus you also have a his-res photo quality printer to do your normal photos.

As I've said else where the ink tanks are bigger than I thought and I'm hoping nobody knocks them off the shelf. They hold 100ml of ink per colour and there are 6 tanks. Plus for the price you get a set of 100ml refills. So it's going to take a long time to use up the ink.

Installation of the continuous inking system involves going to the company's website to download the instructions but they are easy to follow even though some of the pictures could have been better.

The only problem I encountered was the first time I tried to install it XP crashed and rebooted. But after uninstalling the printer I made sure my other Epson was turned on during the installation and everything when perfectly.

Now I wonder which ink gives the best photographic results ? My CX6600 uses Pigment Ink and this one uses a Dye ink .Actually I don't really have room to put paper in it due to the shelf it's on but it the was the disc printing that attracted me along with the excellent package price.

Hi Larry. I have the R360 and print discs regularly. It's fantastic quality, you just have to make sure you get the right discs. Some say they are printable but are too smooth that the ink doesn't bond.

Yes the first disc I found that was white faced and smooth I assumed was printable but the ink didn't take to it.
The second was a matt finish and gave perfect results.

I saw the R360 but I already have most of the extra features with the CX6600.

At present the only printable discs I have are dual-layer DVDs. I'm hoping if the Church want the fully printed DVDs that they'll supply them.

I buy mine from Tape City. It's a shop near where I work but I'm sure they have a website.

Can be relied on to have some good deals.

Looking through their current range they have printable DVD -R from 11.5P each ,DVD +R from 11.5P each and CDR from 9 P each.

It's unusual to find shops with discs at good prices ,but that's not saying they don't exist.
