In a few weeks, I'll be spending 4 days in Minehead.

Have you been? And if so, do you have any recommendations/advice etc?

Ta.

Are you going to Butlins? There is loads to do on site, funfair etc.

In the rest of Minehead you can:

Go on the steam trains
Go shopping up and down the main street (mostly tourist shops, 'surf' shops, charity shops)
Bump into pensioners every two seconds as it is the retirement capital of Somerset.

Butlins is probably your main source of fun stuff.

Or if you've got transport, head up the coast a bit to Weston for the day. There's a pier and arcades and everything! ;)

I think there are arcades, but I can't remember where.
Sorry - I'm not helping really. It's a nice place, honest!

Not sure if you mean Butlins or Minehead was closed, Jim!

Reminds me of a great John Denver song (yes, I'm coming out of the closet, I was a big John Denver fan) - the 10th anniversary of his death was the other day - wasn't overly keen on 'Annie's Song', but many of his album tracks were sublime.

The one I'm thinking of was just a funny little ditty, though....

Quote:
Saturday night in Toledo, Ohio is like being nowhere at all.
All through the day how the hours rush by, you sit in the park and you watch the grass die.

Ah, but after the sunset, the dusk and the twilight, when shadows of night start to fall.
They roll back the sidewalk precisely at ten and people who live there are not seen again.

Just two lonely truckers from Great Falls, Montana and a salesman from places unknown
all huddled together in downtown, Toledo to spend their big night all alone.

You ask how I know of Toledo, Ohio? Well I spent a week there one day.
They've got entertainment to dazzle your eyes: go visit the bakery and watch the buns rise.

Ah, but let's not forget that the folks of Toledo unselfishly gave us the scale.
No springs, honest weight, that's the promise they made,
so smile and be thankful next time you get weighed.

And "wive and wet wive", let this be our motto, let's let the sleeping dogs lie.
And here's to the dogs of Toledo, Ohio, ladies, we bid you goodbye.

poor cc100!

Good things about Minehead;

1) Butlins is loads of fun and if it is halloween there will be lots of stuff arranged to do on site.
2) The sea front is nice
3) There is a funfair
4) You can get a cream tea
5) You can get fish and chips
6) You can get away from it all and relax...which I hope you will do and have a good time regardless of us xx

I've just got back. Minehead itself was pretty good with one of the best beaches I've seen in Britain.

But Butlins was terrible. Filthy, boring, expensive and full of kids! The chalet was bog-standard, and my mom said it was exactly the same as when she stayed there 30 years ago.

I don't recommend it.

I'm off to London for new year next!

Glad the beach was good! Have never been to Butlins (stayed in lots of caravans but never in a place like Butlins) but I don't think it sounds too temtping from your description lol!

Yippee for going to London though!
