Don't look, Sharon! Dannii gets special treatment from boss Simon Cowell

Here's a sight sure to raise Sharon Osbourne's hackles.

X Factor mogul Simon Cowell was spotted whisking judge Dannii Minogue off for a one-on-one dinner at London's Mr Chow last night.

The intimate outing will no doubt further fuel the reported bitter rivalry between the pop singer and her older counterpart.

Cowell's X Factor blast

Cocky Simon Cowell blasted Sharon Osbourne's prospects of winning the X Factor saying: "She hasn't got a cat in hell's chance".

He has narrowed down which acts he thinks could land the £1million recording deal - but they don't include Sharon's girls Alisha Bennett and Emily Nakanda.

He said: "I think it will be Niki Evans, Rhydian Roberts or one of the groups.

"Sharon can't win. No way. She hasn't got a cat in hell's chance of winning."

Niki is Louis Walsh's choice act while Dannii Minogue looks after Rhydian.

Simon is mentoring boy band Futureproof, girl group Hope and duo Same Difference.

But panel judge Simon, speaking after the X Factor won the Most Popular Talent Show gong at the National TV awards, said the contestants were not of the same calibre as last year's top performer.

He said: "Anyone who is compared to Leona Lewis, not just X Factor contestants, isn't great. But by her coming on the show the other week, she gave them all a kick up the a**e."

But he added: "I think you are going to see an improvement over the next couple of weeks. Rhydian, I have to tell you, is a world class singer, he should be with me."

And he praised Dermot O'Leary who took over hosting the show from axed Kate Thornton this series.

Simon said: "Dermot has made it through to the next round. I have got to tell you that he has been an absolute star.

Walking in when someone else has had the gig, it is not the easiest thing to do. Apart from being a great guy and a fantastic presenter, he is great with the talent."

Simon also revealed that he is planning to take legal action against a firm rushing out a CD of early demos by Leona ahead of her debut album.

He said: "What I would say is that people should wait to buy the proper album and not get conned into buying a bunch of demos, because that is what they are.

"I will try and stop it. I don't think they'll be available."

The rest of the X Factor judges were at the awards at the Albert Hall, London, but talked down any rivalry among them.

Simon joked: "We'll put it to the public vote to see which of the others should stay. The way things are going I'll be the only one left on the panel next year."

X Factor to air as usual

Saturday night's X Factor is going ahead without Emily Nakanda after she was caught attacking another girl in a "happy slapping" video.

She quit the programme after mobile phone footage showed her holding the victim in a headlock and pulling her hair.

Bookies Ladbrokes have decided to refund all bets placed on the 15-year-old.

In another video clip earlier this week, Emily is alleged to have called herself "Lady Shiverz" and threatened to cut out a boy's eyes with a knife.

Even before her shock departure the teenager was second favourite to be voted off, after being slammed by the judges last week for her performance of the Britney Spears hit Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman.

The hot favourite to win is catering manager Niki Evans from Tamworth, Staffordshire.

An X Factor spokeswoman said the competition would air as usual on Saturday with one of the remaining acts evicted by phone and judge vote.

No X Factor future for Futureproof

Futureproof have become the latest act to be voted off the X Factor.

The boy band failed to win over the judges or the public with their version of the Andy Williams classic Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You, as they sang along to this week's live big band.

Mentor Simon Cowell had to choose between the boys and his girl group Hope after the judges' vote was split following the final sing-off.

He said: "I'm judging this on who I think has the best long-term prospects."

Futureproof, who were all solo rejects put together by the judges, weren't put off by their exit, however.

The five-piece told the X Factor audience: "This is just the beginning for us. We'll be in shops one day and you lot will love it."

The boys, who were dressed in matching grey shiny suits, had faced criticism over their song choice by the judges, and for their poor dance routine.

Dannii told them: "You know I love you but I don't love that song for you. It was the first time vocally it wasn't perfect, and it didn't work for you".

HERE'S HOPING

More of ITV's X Factor

Over on the X Factor and why does Dermot O'Leary wear suits that don't fit him?

Ditto Louis Walsh.

What's Brian Friedman for? ("All you've got to do is sing that song.") Ditto Sharon Osbourne.

Did midget Leon star in Lord Of The Rings? As a hobbit?

Do Westlife pay for the plugs their shameless manager Walsh gives them?

How come Simon Cowell's the only panellist who ever says anything interesting?

And why don't girl group Hope(less) cut to the chase and strip completely naked? Actually, that's not so much a question. It's more of a request.

Futureproof blame Cowell

Boy band Futureproof last night blamed Simon Cowell for them getting booted off the X Factor.

The lads said Cowell changed their routines just 10 minutes before the ITV1 show started on Saturday.

Richard Wilkinson, 23, said: "We had a hard week and I think we did pretty well because of last minute changes." Aaron Delahunty, 19, added: "Matt's solo bit got cut and the dancing came to barely nothing."

Cowell later admitted he had "chosen the wrong songs". Futureproof lost in a sing-off with Cowell's other group, girl band Hope.

The X Factor: the third live show
Beverley emerged from Niki's shadow, Rhydian stole the show but showed signs of fatigue, Alisha pulled it out of the bag, and the rest somehow kept TV's most addictive show on the road.
November 5, 2007 10:45 AM

Despite the shock exit of Emily, The X Factor moved seamlessly on and produced another great show on Saturday night. Having Nigel Wright and his 27-piece big band really gave the artists a challenge and plainly not all of them rose to it.

The sing-off came down to a battle of the bands, Hope and Futureproof, suggesting that the experiment of putting individual rejects together might not have been such a marvel of alchemy after all. Futureproof's extraordinary rendition of I Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You got them the boot after mentor Simon Cowell decided to give some further Hope to the girl band.

For Sharon, who lost Kimberley in the first week and Emily to happy-slapping allegations last week, there was a reprieve as Alisha pulled a life-saving performance out of the bag.

Only Dannii now has all three of her original acts left - but Rhydian is the only one of them who has a prayer of going all the way. In fact Louis is the judge in pole position, with the show's two strongest acts, Niki and Beverley.

I'm also enjoying Dermot O'Leary - I doubted his appointment and once copped some flak for mourning Kate Thornton's passing, but the guy has the perfect light touch while seeming in total control, injecting waspish humour without belittling the contestants.

A few thoughts about the eight remaining acts:

Andy: he is on borrowed time. An anaemic This Guy's In Love With You was only a notch better than his Stayin' Alive atrocity last week.

Leon: has a better voice than Andy but he is simply not good enough. His dancing on Saturday was all wrong.

Rhydian: he has a great voice and produced the night's most imaginative song choice with Get The Party Started, stealing the show in his sequinned suit. But the Rhydster is starting to seem like a one-trick pony. Oddly, he is reminding me of his compatriot Shirley Bassey - in fact, Dannii, if you're reading this, get him to do History Repeating, Dame Shirl's classic collaboration with the Propellerheads. It would bring the house down, trust me.

Alisha: got out of jail with a soulful and sassy performance. She has a few weeks in her if she keeps her game up.

Beverley: she hit a series high with Feeling Good, but it's not clear she can handle a more up-tempo number. For vocal talent she'll take some beating - expect her in the final three.

Niki: for the first time overshadowed by Beverley, but she dared to go outside her comfort zone and made a decent fist of All That Jazz, which could have been an utter catastrophe. She has to be in the final three and remains the favourite for me.

Same Difference: they're a weird pair, so permanently upbeat it's bewildering and wearying to watch them. The S Club song was a tedious choice and hardly a great use of the big band. They probably have a few weeks in them but there isn't enough talent or variation there to make them contenders.

Hope: Hanky Panky was another unimaginative selection. Their attempts at raunchy vaudeville are backfiring for me and suggesting desperation. Expect them and - if there's any justice - Andy in next week's bottom two. guardian

Proud pupils cheer on our Bev

School trip to X Factor studios to support their star
It was an extra special performance for Luton songbird Beverley Trotman on Saturday night's X Factor, as her school pupils were in the audience cheering.

There were 15 youngsters from 6T, Mrs Trotman's Icknield Primary class, supporting their 38-year-old teacher, who gave a stunning rendition of Feelin Good by Nina Simone.

You're a fool, Louis

Three weeks into the X Factor’s live Saturday night sing-offs and – after another mesmerising performance from the remarkable Rhydian Roberts – Louis Walsh made a complete fool of himself.

“That was a bit over the top,” complained the badly out of touch Irishman.

Louis – it’s RHYDIAN! It’s supposed to be over the top. That’s the whole point. Why don’t you get it?

Not surprisingly, Rhydian – who had stormed onto the stage in a sparkling sequin suit and a white fur coat (fake I hope!) – was nonplussed by Louis’s nonsensical criticism. We all were.

Apart from Simon Cowell, the standard of judging on the X Factor is lousy.

Danni’s nice but clueless. While wallpaper Walsh and useless Osbourne are far too old for this show.
