Don't go bust for boob job

Debt advisers have warned women about the possible dangers of going bust over their bust.

The warning comes after Belfast model Orlaith McAlister became the face - and boobs - of cosmetic surgery firm Make Yourself Amazing. The former Big Brother star, who has recently had her surgically-enhanced bosom lifted again, is fronting MYA's new advertising campaign, which tries to entice women with the promise of a body of a model . . . on the 'never, never'.

The firm is signing up customers with promises of boob jobs from £18-a-week and offering long-term credit to customers unable to pay up front for treatments that run into thousands of pounds.

According to MYA's website, it offers financing on some boob jobs charging zero per cent finance, but only when the money is paid back quickly. It says its typical rates are from 12.9pc - the typical APR on many high street loans is around 6.8pc.

Scott Kennerley of the Citizens Advive Bureau said: "We don't tell people what to spend their money on, but we would caution them on borrowing. We received 54,000 queries relating to debt in the last financial year.

"It is important that anyone wishing to take out additional credit is actually able to pay the money back, and whether their weekly income will allow for this.

"We would advise anyone wanting to take out a credit agreement to beware of high pressure sales tactics and not to agree to anything you are not happy with.

"Never sign an agreement straight away without reading the small print and making sure you understand everything.

"Shop around to get the best deal, see if you can borrow the money for a lower rate of interest and look at how much in total the credit is going to cost. Sometimes the monthly payment looks affordable and people can miss the fact that they will be paying it for a long time."

A spokeswoman for MYA said: "Some people are lucky enough to be able to avoid surgery with financial assistance. Many are not so lucky, but this does not mean that they are irresponsible.

"At MYA we try to provide a fantastic patient experience for all who are suitable for surgery.

"We act as a conduit to competitive loans provided by high street establishments and have no influence in authorising a loan."

It's bloody madness, I tell you.

Breast reduction, yes, if a woman is suffering a whole lot of discomfort, and being restricted in what she can do, (like bending down to pick up her child), due to the size of her breasts.

But 'boob jobs', to 'make yourself amazing'? And you might not even be able to afford it?

It's like The Emperor's New Clothes. I can understand why people like the idea of altering their appearance, but I think there are wiser ways to enhance one's self-esteem.

I want to say 'GET A GRIP' (I know, I know, that's all very well, if you can find enough to grip on to... but still...)

Madness.
