Thanks, GG and Larry. I'm definitely NOT an inspiration!! I just finally woke up to myself, that's all. When I was in my 20s and early 30s I basically ate as little as possible and exercised to complete excess in order to try and stay slim, as I'm not *naturally* slim. I was never more miserable in my life, and avoided all social contact in case it involved eating something that was bad for me. I think I was really on the verge of anorexia at that stage, and when a serious knee injury meant that I couldn't do any exercise for a year and a half, I just put on weight so fast. I kind of let myself go after that, but in September this year I caught myself on. I knew I'd never diet again, as that's where the trouble started, but I just decided to try to drink loads of water (and MUCH less alcohol!!), and to walk loads, but something that was sustainable - not something you do to lose weight quickly, but never have time or inclination for in the rest of your life). I started eating lots of fruit and veg too, and I have 3 proper meals a day. Snacks are always fruit, and after the first few weeks I stopped needing even that.

Larry - you are lucky to be a little underweight rather than overweight! Though I have two brothers who are skin and bone because of medical conditions, and I wouldn't want to have their problems either.

Yes your right but I'm the exception in our family.
My Grandfather was Obese (20st) ,my Mother has been dieting for as long as I can remember and although she is at her target weight she has been about half a stone lighter and would like to get back down there. My Father is about 5ft 5 and 13st.

When I left school over 25 years ago I was 6ft and 9 1/2 stone eating up to 5000 calories a day but playing Cricket and cycling hard every day.
After by first Motorbike crash I put on a couple of stone then after my second crash I put on a bit more weight despite the exercise I was getting pushing myself to really get around on crutches on very hilly terrain.
But I joined a slimming group which had an aerobics class first and lost I think it was 21 Lbs (1 1/2 stone) and have stayed around 11st until I started cycling and then the Ice Skating and am now somewhere between 10st 7 and 11st. I haven't weighed myself in ages but that's the zone. If I work exercise harder it's the lower end if I ease off it's the higher end. Normally this time of the year it would be the top end but the skating should be keeping it down. I don't pay much attention to my weight but if people start saying I'm looking thinner I eat more.

As I say there's more of the family that's above their idea weight than below. But if the shopping was left to me we'd all have healthy food for the meals.

My Father is putting on weight but he should be a couple of stone lighter as he had heart problems a few years ago. When he left hospital he was a healthy 10 1/2 stone and has been putting on weight every since and can't see any wrong in it. I just wish his Doctor would put his foot down and insist that he loose some weight ,but there's no telling some people.
