Yesterday (Sunday) saw temperatures top 15C and Friday night remained just under 14C. From early afternoon the temperature rose to nearly 14C then with a small dip somewhere around 9 or 10 PM they quickly recovered to around 14C and held there until maybe 2 or 3 AM Saturday when they fell sharply to 10C and remained there until mid morning.

Certainly strange weather.

Brighter drier weather is possibly on the charts for next week though it could well be High Pressure and that'll drop the temperatures and return us to the frosty nights. I haven't checked the long range forecast yet but the local weather bulletins have mentioned brighter better weather by the start of next week. But as the forecasts are changing very quickly just recently due to the complex low pressure systems that has brought all the rain and high winds it might not appear.

Scientist warns of new 'Ice Age'

Forget global warming and prepare for a new ice age, warns one of Russia's top scientists.

Britain will soon experience Siberian temperatures with rivers and canals freezing over in winter. The big chill will last up to 65 years, says Khabibullo Abdusamatov, head of space research at the Pulkovo observatory in St Petersburg.

He predicts: "A global freeze will happen regardless of whether industrialised countries cap greenhouse gas emissions." He claims the deep cooling - caused by a fall in solar activity - will start around 2055.

Are but with the current rate of ice melting the salt level in the Atlantic will becoming more diluted and it is one of the factors that control the Atlantic current which is effectivly the radiator for the Northern Hemisphere. Ice core samples have shown that when the Salt levels fall the current slows down and we get an Ice Age. I think they have found evidence of 5 Ice Ages . This would appear to be one way in which the planet regulates the temperatures. A Horizon program on this subject a few years ago claimed that it could be as earlier than 2020 before the next Ice Age started.
Remember the film 'The Day after Tomorrow' ? Well a lot of it in the beginning is based on fact but they then took dramatic license in what happened in the film with the appearance on giant super cells which gave the instant freezing.

The warming in some areas will cause the melting of the ice ,and all that pure water entering the Oceans will dilute the salt but the rest we'll have the wait and see who is correct. One way or another within the next 100 years there is the possibility of dramatic climate and at some point it will cool down again and an Ice Age can't be ruled out.

Snow and gales set to sweep Britain

Gale-force winds and freezing temperatures are set to hit Britain in the coming days, the Met Office has warned.

Heavy snow will follow winds of up to 70mph as a cold front from the north spreads across the UK over the next 72 hours.

Weather warnings have been issued for much of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland from Friday as the temperatures plummet.

Four inches of snow (10cm) is expected to fall on higher ground in the north and Wales. Parts of Scotland may see up to eight inches (20cm).

A spokeswoman for the Met Office said today: "We are expecting it to get very cold and snowy with temperatures falling as low as -10C. "Parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and north-west England will be most at risk from snow, with some areas of central southern England also hit. It will be wet and windy, with winds of up to 70mph in the north-west areas of England and Scotland."

Rain and winds of up to 60-70mph could reach the English Channel coastline during tomorrow afternoon.

The cold weather is expected to spread southwards across the UK during Friday and is likely to persist into Saturday.

The Met Office spokeswoman said: "Disruption to transport and power networks is likely and the public are advised to take extra care."
