An accused is innocent, till proven guilty, and while no member of the jury is going to read any comment on here, I would still imagine that it's wrong to come to any conclusion, until the jury give their verdict.

I know if I was on a jury, the obligation to prove something 'beyond reasonable doubt' would be a heavy burden, in many cases. It's so important, not to get things wrong, I would think!

It's indeed plausible, that Mr Wright would request that the women would not occupy the bed he shared with his partner, if they visited his home. I would have thought a person might choose to use towels, rather than jackets, but then, that's perhaps incidental.

When I read this,

Quote:
Referring to a break in the killings between October 30 and November 14 which coincided with a period during which Wright's partner was off work, Mr Wright QC said: “In that time the women working the streets of Ipswich were not subjected to any campaign by a random psychopath.”

it made me think 'well, there's an interesting fact', but there's always the possibility that some other individual was watching Mr Wright's movements, and chose to murder each woman shortly after Mr Wright had 'selected' her - some horrible plot to frame an innocent man, perhaps? If one was serving on the jury, one would have to consider all these things.

But the blood on his jackets - well, now, that raises some questions, I would think.

As always, many people hope for whatever passes as 'justice' for those who lost their lives. Nothing can bring them back.

Suffolk accused may not have acted alone, court hears

This article was first published on guardian.co.uk on Thursday February 14 2008. It was last updated at 16:20 on February 14 2008.

The man accused of murdering five prostitutes may not be the only person involved but the truth may never be known, a court heard today.

Steve Wright, a former publican and QE2 steward who denies murdering the women, is the one "common denominator" linking their deaths, a jury was told.

Peter Wright, QC, prosecuting, said police had first arrested Tom Stephens, who admitted sleeping with all of the victims and who told detectives he did not want to be thought of as another "Ian Huntley".

Ipswich sex workers Gemma Adams, 25, Tania Nicol, 19, Anneli Alderton, 24, Paula Clennell, 24 and Annette Nicholls, 29, were all found naked at remote locations in Suffolk between December 2 and December 12 2006.

The prosecutor said: "We, on behalf of the Crown, cannot eliminate [Stephens] from possible involvement."

He added: "There is no evidence that provides him with an independent verifiable alibi that would conclusively rule him out."

Stephens was questioned but later freed after detectives found no evidence to charge him. In contrast to Wright, Stephens' DNA was
not found on any of the victims' bodies.

"The offences may be the work of one man but we cannot exclude the possibility that another or others may have had a hand in each of these deaths," the prosecutor said.

The barristers are summing up the evidence and jurors are expected to start considering their verdict next week.

Case against Wright 'doesn't add up'

THE possibility of more than one person being involved in the red light killings suggests “something doesn't quite add up”, jurors were told today.

Victim 'gave vital evidence'

One of five murdered prostitutes may have given evidence to police which undermines the case against a man accused of the killings, a court was told.

A barrister representing defendant Steve Wright said Paula Clennell had given "vital evidence" which may prove that one of the women had been killed by someone else.

The barrister also highlighted "vital evidence" from Clennell, which may suggest one of the women had been killed by someone else.

Jurors have been told Clennell had been questioned by police following Nicol's disappearance in late October. Prosecutors have suggested that Wright killed Nicol after picking her up at around 11pm on October 30.

However, Clennell told police she saw Nicol talking to the occupant of a car that did not match Wright's in the early hours of October 31.

I'm very disappointed that the Guardian didn't see fit to refer to the victims as Ms Clennell, and Ms Nicol.
