Expensive signing Natasha Kaplinsky has been credited with boosting Five News viewers by 72 per cent.

The newsreader was poached from the BBC for a £1million salary, but the latest viewer figures indicate it could be money well spent.

Her debut appearance on Five last month attracted 1million viewers, and since then she has averaged 847,000 each evening at 5pm.
