Have you ever heard of “Morgellon’s Disease?”

More than 10,000 reports of the mysterious disease have been reported from all over the World.

People with Morgellon’s disease describe it as a feeling of bugs or parasites scuttling around beneath their skin, accompanied by open lesions that heal slowly and ooze out blue, black or white fibers that can be several millimeters long. These fibers appear like pliable plastic. They can be as fine as spider silk, yet they are strong enough to distend the skin when pulled and elicit shooting pains when you try to remove them.

Additional symptoms have been said to include fatigue, mental confusion, short term memory loss, joint pain, changes in vision, and social dysfunction, including suicide.

According to a recent article in Natural News Morgellon’s disease may be linked to genetically modified food.

Taken from that article:-

Quote:
a research team from Oklahoma State University lead by Dr. Randy Wymore, studied some of the fibers sent to them by Morgellons patients. They discovered that fibers from different people looked remarkably similar to each other and yet seemed to match no common environmental fibers.

Ahmed Kilani, a specialist in infectious disease detection, claimed to have broken down two fiber samples and extracted their DNA. He found that they belonged to a fungus.

In an even more provocative finding, Vitaly Citovsky, Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Stony Brook University in New York, discovered that the fibers contained the substance Agrobacterium, a genus of gram-negative bacteria capable of genetically transforming not only plants, but also other eukaryotic species, including human cells.

Here are four simple steps to decrease your consumption of GM foods as much as possible (if you have the time and the money!!):

* Reduce or eliminate processed foods in your diet. The fact that 75 percent of processed foods contain GM ingredients is only one of the many reasons to stick to a whole foods diet.

* Read produce and food labels. Conventionally raised soybeans and corn make up the largest portion of genetically modified crops. Ingredients made from these foods include high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), corn flour and meal, dextrin, starch, soy sauce, margarine, and tofu.

* Buy organic produce. By definition, food that is certified organic must be free from all GM organisms, produced without artificial pesticides and fertilizers and from an animal reared without the routine use of antibiotics, growth promoters or other drugs. Additionally, grass-fed beef will not have been fed GM corn feed.

* Look at produce stickers. The PLU code on stickers for conventionally grown fruit consists of four numbers, organically grown fruit has five numbers prefaced by the number nine, and GM fruit has five numbers prefaced by the number eight.

Since the 1980s, Monsanto has become the world leader in genetic modification of seeds. They now own over 11,000 patents in seed companies. 7 out of 10 foods are now genetically modified.

I just wonder what other people's thoughts on this are?

Sounds dreadful, like something from a horror movie.

But I'm not much use when it comes to 'food scares', and being careful about what I eat.

Even without going near GM products, I believe that there's lots of questionable things added to food which isn't organic.

But the only organic food I bother to buy is carrots. I reckon that we've all got to die of something, and I don't want to spend my life worrying. I did stop buying grapefruit, after I read that they've been linked to increased risk of breast cancer. (and I love grapefruit! :-( ). But I eat and drink all sorts of stuff which is 'bad for you' in some ways, and that's despite the fact that I try to go for reasonably healthy options!

I'm hoping that choosing Fairtrade products at least prove a bit more useful to someone!

I agree entirely and the more of these questionable things we have, the harder our bodies have to work to eliminate them, quite often resulting in tiredness, because our energy is being directed elsewhere.

I agree, but at least we have the choice whether we buy organic or whatever at the moment, but the trouble with GM food is, the way things are going there soon may not be a choice and that is what is so alarming I think, because it hasn't been going long enough for us to know the full effects of what damage it could do.

According to that article, already 70% of our food is genetically modified and there is also real problems for farmers wanting to grow standard or organic crops, because GM seeds from neighbouring farms could blow into their fields and contaminate their crops.

Monsanto are trying to buy up the patents in as many seed companies as they can and it is estimated that they already own about 11,000. If this continues, us and future generations could face real problems.

In the past, farmers have planted seeds and saved seeds for future use. Basically, in 1995, the pesticide industry bought the seed industry. This gives them the power to own and control the species of the earth. They have been patenting as many saved seeds as possible. They could then take one seed to replace all those seeds and will own the marketplace.

I believe that we need to let the supermarkets know that we don't want GM food, otherwise it will just take over and we shall have to suffer any consequences.
