Grrr! Yesterday I was at our Health Centre to pick up a prescription, and I had walked down in torrential rain. I don't know if it was just my trainers being wet, or if the floor was wet from other people, but I skidded away across the floor, and landed on my *good* knee (the one I haven't dislocated loads of times) and twisted it really badly. So I'm off for my walking holiday in Donegal today with my knee heavily strapped, and the gait of a pensioner. Hippo - laugh and you're dead!! :naughty:

Thanks, TD. I will endeavour to enjoy myself, even if it means being forced to sit outside at my friend's house on my lounger, with gin and tonic in hand...

The weather is scorching here today - really lovely, but too hot for taking Barney in the car. Golden retrievers get very hot in summer with all that hair, so I'll wait till late afternoon before leaving. Must actually go and do some packing soon, hehe! I'm going for the whole month of July, probs, then up to get the flat tidied and to prepare for the visit of my uni friend's daughter in August.

sorry to totally ruin the mood, but I'm still in a bit of shock about the murder of those 2 French students in New Cross

I somehow managed to miss the original story of the fire on Sunday despite it happening about 5/10 mins away from where I live. It's really scary to think that something like this happened practically on my doorstep

it was a few months ago that that nurse got killed crossfire gun battle in New Cross Gate

what is this world coming to?

I was just listening to the radio about that double murder of the French students, darkhawk. It's very scary to think that there's someone out there who is capable of such barbarity. It always seems worse when these things happen close to your own home - I remember how it used to be for me growing up in a troubled part of Belfast during the height of the troubles.

It's the brutality of it that has shocked me - 200 stab wounds I think?

So many people come to our country to study/work and it's seen as an adventure and a place of opportunity. It must be heartbreaking for their families who have waved them off without a worry.

I worry about London at the moment tbh. It seems like another planet from where I live. Mind you it's not that Waltons-like in Somerset either. About five years ago a bloke was murdered in our village and they found him in the chest freezer

The news is just too depressing to watch these days. I do despair of this country and the awful things people do to each other.

I am now in Donegal, and have managed to hobble along the beach today - albeit with the aid of a walking pole- so progress on the knee problem! Last night we were supposed to go to a party, but we'd already been out for lunch with my friend and her parents, so we decided to stay in and watch Doctor Who. What a fabulous episode!!

You should have buried him under the patio.

Thanks, GG. My knee was dreadfully sore yesterday, but seems a bit better today. Such an annoying thing to happen though! At least Wendy has managed to sort out internet access for me on her windows laptop - I can't cope with her Mac at all!! Mind you - for someone who learned to touch type on a manual typewriter many moons ago, these laptop keyboards are not easy to use. They aren't "angled" like a proper keyboard, and there isn't as much definition in the keys. I hope I get used to it soon.

Sorry about your knee(s) old 'un.

You should get one of those whicker bath chairs, sit on the high street, trip teenagers as they pass with your walking stick, snatch their Blackberrys and laptops, hide them under a tartan rug and then make a hasty exit freewheelin' downhill.

Why would Hippo be concerned about your ability.....

My knees have been playing up lately, too - funny how Hippo's fans seem to be suffering in that regard.

Off topic, I was hoping Nadal could 'nail' it there (the Championships), but rain has stopped play.

Hope RTVF has been enjoying her day at Wimbledon today.

BOOOOOOOOOOO!!! :eviltongue:

Nadal's tennis is as ugly as his face.

His game is all power and perseverance, grinding down players with his grunting monotony.

Federer is an elegant artiste of flair, subtlety and variety.

Federer is a much better player, and is even playing better than Nadal today, but his mental frailty, his self-doubt means he cannot apply the coup-de-grace to the beastly dragon snorting on the other side of the net.

He's created plenty of break points, but cannot take them.

Come on Federer, do it for beauty, do it for genius, do it for for those who love sport and not just athletics/fitness!
