The candidates deliver their thrilling manifesto speeches...

With rosettes at the ready, and their nerves less than steady, it was all go for our election candidates Dale, Luke and Darnell, as Big Brother welcomed them to the "first ever Head Of House election."

Dale was first up with his speech. "Right guys," he began, "we're all a family and we've all got to listen to work together, to get individual opinions across."

He suggested the whole House eat halal meat, before admitting, "I'm getting dead nervous now!"

Luke, a politics student, was understandably more cool, calm and collected. "Housemates, friends," he began, "I have now evicted the basic budget. This week, we will not - we will not - we will NOT go back to basics! It's simple - it's like two plus two. We should choose the best people for the best Task."

Lastly, Darnell weighed in with a hard-hitting speech. "Housemates," he told the group sombrely, "the House is in a shambles, straight-up. Halfway since we've got here, we've had two removals, numerous housemates in tears. It is broke, it does need to be fixed. And as far as back to basics goes, look around. Have you looked in the fridge lately?"

Wow - we've never heard Gordon Brown asking that!

Luke's not in a chatty mood...

The housemates cast their votes for Head Of House in the garden tonight, and Rebecca headed straight to the bedroom to see Luke after casting hers - but the boy wonder didn't want to talk.

"You alright, Luke?" Rebecca asked her mate, flopping down on the bed. "What's the matter? Do you think you're gonna win?"

"Do I hell!" Luke retorted. "It's not an election I want to win, Rebecca."
"Why?" Rebecca asked. "Don't say that!"

"I have different reasons," Luke replied in a low voice. "I'll be gutted if I win."

"Why?" the lass persisted. "Why don't you want to win?"

The lad sighed loudly. "I just don't feel that I would do as good a job as the other candidates. That's all."

Rebecca looked confused. "Luke, what's wrong with you? Why are you being funny?"

"To be honest, I just want to go to bed," the student said sadly.

"What's the matter?" his friend repeated for the 83rd time.

"Nothing," Luke replied dully, "I'm just tired. Dale's exhausted as well."

Come on Luke - Margaret Thatcher only used to get four hours' sleep a night!

Lisa misses Mario

Lisa's missing Mario's election...

The housemates had dinner tonight before voting for their Head Of House - but Lisa couldn't concentrate on the hot topic, as she was missing her newly-departed boyfriend Mario.

"They were so good, all of them," Belinda confided to her. "It's difficult to know who to vote for."

"Yes it is, isn't it?" Lisa agreed vaguely.

"'Cause Darnell spoke with such passion," enthused the theatre director.

"Yeah, he did," sighed Lisa, gazing into the middle distance.

The housemates then cheered as Big Brother announced that voting would take place in fifteen minutes - and Lisa began talking about her other half.

"I've been worrying about Mario," she admitted.

"I think Mario would have been good at the election," Luke assured her. "He would have done a good speech."

"There's loads of things he would've been good at," Lisa told him sadly. "Loads.

"Well, he would have voted for me anyway," the lad quipped. "That's the main thing!"

But Lisa didn't laugh. "I just think he was too much of a threat, that's all it is" she confessed. "People were too frightened to talk to him, 'cause he was so much the alpha male, you see."

Well, that's one theory!
