Tom Daley finished 8th in the 10m Individual Diving and is therefore through to the finals. [To be broadcast at 1pm Saturday]

Sadly, the injury suffering Pete Waterfield finished 13th and just missed out on the final 12.

Its probably unrealistic to expect Tom to win a medal as he faces some very strong competition but who knows? Should be a thrilling final whatever happens.

So THIS is where the Olympics have been discussed!! I was amazed that there was nothing much in the Sports Forum!!

I've been glued to it, and have developed black circles under my eyes from sitting up half the night and getting up early to watch stuff live.

GG - great news about your daughter going to Uni!

Hehe, Merx - that made me giggle. I enjoyed hearing the German, too.

Yeah, the Olympic Discussion was held here this year... but the Thursday Night HL Thread has won the bid to hold the discussions in 2012. ;)

I know what you mean about the rings under the eyes... kinda relieved its all over now. What with work, BB, F1 and the Olympics there seems not to be enough hours in the day for those other things like sleeping and eating.

Missed the F1 this weekend - must google it. The Olympics was just amazing this year, and it kind of took my attention away from BB - though I did watch the HL shows each night.

What did you think of the little London spot at the Closing Ceremony? I'm so excited at the prospect of the Games being on at a time I can watch them live (unless they are scheduled for September, when I'm at work, lol).

Oh, when it was announced that London was hosting the Games, I immediately thought 'I want to be involved!'. I considered applying to be a volunteer - maybe putting marg on the bread for sandwiches? ::lol:: Grant it, I'm not a citizen of the U.K., but I thought perhaps there might be some 'Easter Monday' agreement in place by then, whereby Irish people are allowed help out.

Not so sure about putting the marg on the sambos anymore - but I think there might be something else I could be involved with...we'll see.

Hehe @ the Easter Monday agreement idea, GG. As half of Ireland camps out permanently in Ireland, I really don't think there would be a problem with you volunteering. The more the merrier, I'm sure. The Games rely on the volunteers, after all. It would be a fab way of feeling part of things.

saw Get Smart over the weekend, nowhere near as bad as the critics say

it was actually very funny, not in a juvenile way either

next up Hellboy

FYI - if anyone's into rugby there's a nice double header to kick off the new season, taking place at Twickenham on Saturday.

more details here

Hey, GG!!!

Just thought I'd tell you that a former pupil of mine, Jason Smyth, is competing in the 100 and 200 metres for the partially sighted in the Paralympics in Beijing. He's hoping to compete in London in both the Paralympics and the Olympics. He was a lovely wee boy when he was at our school. I taught all his brothers and sisters, and many of his cousins (a cousin of his is in my new class this year). Go Team Ireland, lol!!
