Big Brother Africa Show: Open Sex Causes Row - Remove The Sex Content –NASS - No, That Is The Attraction - Producers
Idowu Samuel, Abuja - 19.07.2008

NIGERIA may have put this year’s episode of the Television Reality Show, Big Brother Africa, in jeopardy following its insistence on rejecting the broadcast of the three months programme in any part of the country.

The House of Representatives had in 2007 placed a ban on the TV Reality Show beamed across the world from South Africa and sponsored by Muti-Choice Communications in protest against the heavily salacious images known with Big Brother Africa.

The ban came about following a motion sponsored by the House of Representatives Committee on Communications headed by Honourable Dino Melaye seeking to block the broadcast of the programme from the Nigerian air space.

The motion had complained against the permission of nudity of among House mates in Big Brother, even as the inmates had the free will to engage in sexual acts, a practice considered by the lawmakers as “barbaric, obscene, unethical and un-African.

The outrage expressed by members of the House against Big Brother Africa emanated from the manner by which a Nigerian girl; Ofuneka, was defiled after being lured into a lurid sexual with the influence of alcohol by a fellow House mate, even as the images of the sexual act were broadcast live and watched in many Nigerian homes.

Ofuneka, considered as having the brightest chances of winning the prize in Big Brother scad came second at the end of the TV reality show, prompting Nigerians who were familiar with the trend of award tricks by Big Brother to accuse the organizers as utterly biased.

Some Nigerians believed that the orgy of sexual act thrown in the way of Ofuneka was the reason she could not win the $100,000 prize offered by the sponsors, as the man who lured her into committing the open sin eventually carted home the entire amount.

A Nigerian who participated in an earlier version of Big Brother before Ofuneka also fell short of winning the $100,000 cash prize having came closer to doing so. That had prompted the audience in Nigeria to believe that the Big Brother is all about regional politics.

Not happy with its inability to air the next episode of Big Brother in Nigeria, Multi-Choice Communications had however, begun intense lobbying around the corridors of power with intent to committing the authorities into accepting to lift the ban on the broadcast.

The House of Representatives had however, agreed to lift the ban on the airing of Big Brother, but with a clause that it should not allow any salacious or sexual scene among the House mates, a condition which Multi-Choice appeared not keen about accepting.

The communication company had from the start of this week, intensified lobby in convincing the House of Representatives members from releasing the Nigerian air space for the broadcast of the TV reality show.

Speaking with Saturday Tribune, the House Committee Chairman on Communication, Honourable Dino Melaye, said Nigeria would not change its mind on the ban.

He reiterated that the programme could only be aired in the country provided Multi- Choice would leave out unethical scenes including open cuddling, nuzzling, smoking and sexual acts by House mates.

The argument by the sponsors of Big Brother Africa for not accepting that condition, Saturday Tribune learnt was that the essence of the reality show would have been defeated if such licentious scenes were left out.

The reality show was initially scheduled to begin last month as advertised, whereas the delay in the broadcast has been the making of the mindset of the government of Nigeria on the broadcast. Nigeria is considered the biggest catchment for the television programme by Multi-Choice.

Mnet’s Africa Big Brother 3 biased

DEAR EDITOR–On Sunday (31 August 2008) on of the housemates in the Big Brother Africa show (TK) urinated in the garden and there were no text messages (SMS's) which complained about this.

Big Brother must ensure fair play

One of the twists and turns promised to Big Brother III audiences took place on Sunday, and it was indeed a shocker.

SOME smouldered with their tangos while for others it was more a situation of the blind leading the blind.

Thursday's task presentation went down without a hitch.

Uti and Lucille's tango was a sexy display, while TK, although he tried, just ended up looking like a bit of a bull in a china shop.

After the dance pairs performed, it was time for the group carnival - which was reminiscent of some of the best carnivals around the world.

Each of the housemates had made their own outfits, there were feathers for Africa, sequins, glitter and masks.

Some of the ladies really outdid themselves, going for the sexiest look.

Lucille in particular seemed to hold the spotlight on the night in a plunging, shorter than short, turquoise-green dress.

Uti and Hazel were the carnival king and queen.

The two boarded a boat-like contraption, floating in the pool, as each of the housemates danced around on the lawn.

After their unfair failure last week, the housemates nervously awaited Biggie's verdict but were not disappointed this time.

"Your presentation tonight was an unbelievable fiesta of carnival fun," he praised them.

"Your lively entrance and group cha-cha tantalised the limbs and got the blood flowing.

The tangos were sumptuous, dramatic and sexy."

There was a but though… Biggie took the housemates to task over their daytime sleeping and said that if even one of them slept while the sun was up on Friday, their wager would automatically be slashed in half.

After hearing that they had succeeded in their 100% task wager, the housemates excitedly awaited their weekly treat in the storeroom.

And they were definitely not disappointed.

A bevy of liquor and cocktail mixers awaited them and the party continued well into the night in the garden.

Lucille, Latoya and Sheila had the boys panting as they gave them a bit of a show, gyrating up on stage, looking as though they could definitely navigate their way around a stripper pole.

Our girl Lucille has definitely shown a different side to her normally reserved personality.

Give her a few drinks and she can party up a storm with the best of them.

Although most of the guys in the house are falling for her, Lucille proved on Friday that she was way more than just a pretty face.

During the HOH task, the housemates found hundreds of helium-filled balloons in the garden.

The task was to tie a bag of marbles to the balloons and the housemate that managed to get their balloons to float up past a certain level would win and be HOH for the coming week.

Surprising everyone, Lucille's balloons were the first to reach the target mark, meaning that from today she will be the new head of house.

After all the rivalry between Munya and Ricco for our lovely Lucille's affections, I wonder what will happen if they both come up for nomination.

Will Lucille save the sweet, rather sensitive Munya or has she fallen for cocky Ricco's charms? BJs? Everyone in the BBA house is buzzing about the apparent hook-up between TK and Tawana last week.

Filtering through the grapevine is the story that apparently TK may have become the first dude in the house to have gotten a BJ! Whether or not this is true, well only Tawana and TK can say and neither of the two housemates is saying a word.

Tawana, however, has been rather vocal about her urges, telling housemates that she misses having sex and being held by a man.

TK on the other hand has flipped the script, telling Biggie that Tawana will end up getting hurt because he "ain't feelin' her like dat".

Instead he has fallen for tomboy Sheila.

The two spent quite a lot of time together on Friday and TK even confessed that he found her very attractive.

While Sheila is quite confident in most social situations, in a relationship setting, she seems to be wary of being hurt.

Will these two hook up? Well with yesterday's eviction results not available at the time of going to print, it's anyone's guess at this point.

Saturday afternoon's Big Brother Wrestling Championships task was a hoot to watch.

The housemates got a wrestling ring and were told to create characters and choreograph a wrestling sequence right out of WWF Smackdown.

The trick was to make sure that no one got hurt.

This was actually quite a risky task for producers to set, as the possibility of someone getting hurt was quite high.

Besides Lucille being slam-dunked by an over-enthusiastic TK, no real damage was done.

DJ Waxy was in the house again this Saturday night.

That guy must be getting paid a fortune to entertain the BBA housemates! He only played for a short while but it was enough to get the housemates all fired up.

Lucille suggestively bumped up against the glass wall while the other housemates danced up a storm.

They were all a little tipsy and after the music died down and the booze dried up, the housemates started bickering and arguing amongst themselves about the disappearing alcohol.

After the boozy night, Lucille, Mimi and Ricco ended up in bed together.

How that happened heaven alone knows, but Munya was not happy about it at all.

Is the initial attraction that Lucille felt for Munya fading because of Casanova Ricco? You'll just have to tune in to see.

Big Brother Africa 3 audiences watched in awe as two housemates — Latoya (Tanzania) and Tawana (Botswana) — were whisked away to a rubbish dump during this week’s dramatic eviction show.

The two were evicted from the housemate where the rest of the housemates are and will live in a specially made rubbish dump for a week during which time viewers will decide who to permanently evict from the show while the other returns back to the house.

Sheila from Kenya who was the third evictee survived the eviction as she got the least nominations.

"Who is that woman crying?" she said as she rushed back into the house.

"I told you I was going to see you again," shouted Munya.

Although the bad-mouthed Sheila is off the hook at least for this week, the question most viewers would ask is for how long.

Back to the rubbish dump where it is all doom and gloom the two — Latoya and Tawana — are going through a rough time and pondering their fate in the BBA.

Of course, they were very much aware that Biggie, the man behind the camera, was up to something "wild, wicked and wacky" but as we know they have no simplest idea of what is in store for one of them.

The twist whereby those nominated for eviction are placed in a rubbish dump will either rejuvenate or destroy some housemates. It is also aimed at stirring up things in the house.

But for Tawana she must have sensed it when she together with Latoya were blindfolded and taken to the diary room where they were told about their stay in the rubbish dump.

So concerned was Tawana that when Biggie called out her name for eviction there was loud cheers from the crowd outside the house.

"I think this is torture," she said before they were taken to the rubbish dump where she immediately went on a treasure hunt for food and cigarettes.

The move to stay in the rubbish dump caused some disappointment on the part of Latoya and Tawana but in the house the excitement was evident.

As for Latoya, she felt a lot like she was in a mess and wished she could smoke.

However, the rubbish dump is not entirely a bad place after all.

They have their own shower as well as a television where they get to watch what will be happening in the house but cannot hear the conversations.

As usual the eviction show was spiced up by music by a Ghanaian artiste whose song is doing well on Channel O.

Elsewhere, Tich Mataz, the local star presenter of BBA3 continued his campaign in support of Zimbabwe’s housemate — Munyaradzi Chidzo-nga.

His presentation marked by the razz matazz took viewers closer to his family with interviews from his parents, fans as well as friends including the musician Metaphysics.

Judging by the number of comments on the BBA3 website, Munya is still very much in control of the game and has an edge over other housemates because he’s a charmer.

If he continues to enjoy all the support not just from Zimbabwean fans but in the region, he might stay in the house right until the end and perhaps win the prize money of US$100 000.

Big Brother Africa 3 is produced by Endemol for M-Net, and Channel O VJ Kabelo Ngakane is the host of the series, screened live from the Big Brother Africa house in Johannesburg.

As with seasons one and two, Big Brother Africa 3 housemates are drawn from 12 countries and screened on M-Net Africa (DStv channel 102). There will be non-stop action for the 91 days in the house culminating in the grand finale on Sunday November 23, 2008.

THEY'VE been rubbished, dumped and binned! Africa has spoken, Tanzania's Latoya and Botswana's Tawana will spend the rest of the week in a makeshift 'rubbish dump' until BBA viewers decide which of the two should be evicted on Sunday - FOR REAL this time.

Supposedly anyway.

Is anyone sure with all these latest twists and turns? Of the three housemates up for eviction, I expected it to be Latoya and Tawana but eish, not in my wildest dreams did I imagine that Latoya would draw by far the most votes.

The Tanzanian got 10 of the 13 votes: Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda and Zambia, wanted her out, and she also got the collective 13th vote of the rest of Africa.

Only South Africa, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe wanted Tawana to be given the boot.

There were no votes for Sheila.

What a difference a day and a rubbish dump makes.

A new, reborn Latoya is rising from the garbage of 'eviction'! She and Tawana are talking like words are going out of fashion - I mean, can you actually remember the two of them ever speaking to each other in the house? OK, I know they've got nobody else to talk to and not too much to do.

Still, they're not the most natural of companions.

Seems Latoya's also decided that her skills extend beyond ironing the sheets of her and Ricco's 'love bed', though she swore blind to Tawana that she and Ricco had not had sex.

Quite something to see the Tanzanian behind a broom instead of behind Ricco! Or lurking in his shadow, or being the bump in the duvet of life.

Yeah, Latoya got her Tant Sannie - Mrs Beeton, if you prefer - on and tackled cleaning up the rubbish with Tawana.

Now I just hope that our girl Lucille doesn't decide to cheeko up with Ricco.

Hey, I think the dude's fyn and fun and all; you know the type of guy designed to spice up any party.

But am I the only one who thinks "cabana boy" when I see him? Have to say Munya's still my main man.

He may not be a 'booty raider' like Ricco, but the dude's a cut above.

GOSSIP GIRLS Didn't take long for Tawana and Latoya to start dishing the dirt on some of the goings-on in the house.

Latoya told Tawana that Ricco "needs his sex" and had been champing at the bit over the lack of action.

Apparently that was the reason he deserted Latoya's bed on Saturday night and decided to try his luck elsewhere - according to La-Latoya, with her blessing.

As we know, he ended up in a communal bed in the lounge with Mimi and Lucille.

But no luck! Even though Mimi seems to have a thing for the Angolan.

Lucille? Who knows? Our girl has been all flirt and tease, but whether she's really interested in a house relationship is anyone's guess.

Latoya reckons there could be trouble on the horizon because "everybody in that bl*%$y house likes Lucille" - Thami, Ricco, Uti and Munya.

She punted a theory that with her - Latoya - out of the house all the pressure is now on Lu.

Still, she reckons that Lucille is "very, very smart" and is playing the guys like cards.

Not sure about that myself.

Maybe she's just overwhelmed by all the attention.

But agree with Latoya - also dubbed 'Toyota' by some in the blogosphere - that one wrong romantic move by Lucille could unleash a S.I.T.U.A.T.I.O.N.!! Eish!! To have to carry the hopes and fantasies of so many on your shoulders! Such slender shoulders too.

One of the most surprising revelations from Latoya was her take on Morris.

There was Tawana going all mushy over muscleman Morris - "aaaw Morris, he's such a good sweet person", only for Latoya to do a 'Kill Bill' on her.

"Morris is very violent."

The look on Tawana's face - priceless.

It was like a bomb had fallen on Botswana.

Latoya then told her how some "pent-up" tendencies had come to the fore in her very short encounters with Morris and that this was the reason she'd basically decided to give him a miss.

Seems that Latoya is not the only one to have noticed that there's more to Morris than meets the eye.

During general conversation in the house, Munya described the Ugandan as "a simmering dish".

One thing the 'rubbish girls' did agree on is that Mimi knows everything that goes on in the house and "is in everybody's business".

Going to be interesting to see how Tawana and Latoya hold up in 'solitary confinement'! * Check out all the action on DStv's Channel 198, the daily shows on Channel 102 at 20h00 and e-mail your thoughts, views and opinions to bba@namibian.com.na

Nigeria out of Big Brother Show

Nigerian Uti Nwachukwu has been evicted from the Big Brother Africa Show last Sunday. Nigeria has therefore become the third country to come out of the Big Brother Africa III show in South Africa. He had 7 votes one ahead of Zimbabwe's Munyaradzi Chidzonga. Uti follows Lucille who was evicted a week ago.
