Just wondered if anybody here has written a will or noted their funereal preferences.

I had 'arranged' mine when I was 17 - chosen the readings, songs and the singers...(I think perhaps I was getting it a little mixed up with a Royal Variety Performance). Maybe it's a teen thing? Or maybe I was just Emo before my time..

Being a parent meant it made sense to write a will some years back. However as the years progressed, we wondered if the 'adults' we'd named as guardians for our children were less sensible than said children.

I was at a friend's funeral a week ago. Being a well-known teacher in our town for over 30 years, her sudden death made the front page of the local paper, but what always strikes me is that 'achievements' in the traditional sense don't account for much, when all is said and done. What matters is how we treat people, and the love we've shown. There can always be another teacher, doctor, prime minister. My friend was a mother who left her children in no doubt that they were adored, and I think that was her biggest achievement.

I think I need to work on how I live, never mind planning what happens when I go to the big gerbilgranny carpark in the sky.

On a lighter note, if anyone cares to name me as a beneficiary in their will... ()^

I have written a will, but no funeral preferences. What about you Cameron - have you written one?

I have written a letter to both of my children. They are very out of date now mind. It would be interesting to read them and see what I said! I think I wrote them when a friend of mine died several years ago and I wanted to be sure I had said what needed saying to them.

In terms of my funeral. Katie seems to have that in hand. She has chosen a song and flowers for me. She's very keen! The only stipulation I have made is that if I die thin I want an open coffin and everyone has to file past me and have a look. :D

::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol::

But the letter idea is wonderful. I can't imagine how many boxes of tissues I'd get through, trying to do that!

Husband is a big fan of 'Red Dwarf', and I used to tell him that I'd have him cremated, and when the curtains were being finally drawn at the end of the service, the Red Dwarf theme tune would be played, very loudly..

I think his family, who well, to be honest, have always suspected I'm crazy, would be thrilled at these apt lyrics:

Let me fly, far away from here,
Fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun.

I want to lie shipwrecked and comatose,
Drinking fresh mango juice,
Goldfish shoals nibbling at my toes,
Fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun
Fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun.

There would also have to be Fairport Convention's 'Meet on the Ledge' played, which is a song about old friends meeting up in heaven. And Fairport is his 'religion'.

Perhaps I was overly keen, a bit like Katie, BBoop...honestly, it's only 'cos we care so much!

As time goes on, though, I'm losing my enthusiasm for such things...

My mother has it all planned on paper .I think the only thing she hasn't arranged is the plot and I keep telling her it would be a good idea to get that bit sorted in case our local cemetery is full when the time comes.

Both my parents have wills ,but when the last one dies I have 12 months to either buy the house or sell it. Though my brothers might be sympathetic and let me stay.

I know I should make a will but it's always been on the 'need to get round to doing' list which is somewhere vague in the back of my head.
I guess it's always felt a bit vague because I don't have a partner or children and I've never been sure who to leave things to - not that I have a lot of assets or anything. It would be my nephews nieces and god children I guess.

However, having experienced at first hand families dealing with the complications of there being no will when someone dies, I think it's something we should all get around to doing...even me

It may seem morbid to a lot of people but it's actually very practical.

However I have chosen my funeral music - Love This Life and Better Be Home Soon by Crowded House. Dunno about hymns - too many to choose from. But definitely NOT all things B and B, I the Lord of sea and sky or The Lord's my Shepherd unless it's the modern version.

So to go back to the author of this thread do you want us to plan your funeral or not? Most people have wedding planners but I'm sure we can club together and send you off well if that's what you prefer :D

Hahhaah - I'll be watching behind me at every turn now.

Apparently if you own property in Spain and die without having written a will, the state gets it regardless of your family situation. I don't know if that's completely accurate but it's certainly what I was led to believe, so I have a Spanish will.

I am planning (as usual) to take advantage of 'willaid' in November, so hopefully this year I will get around to it.

I'm wondering whether to leave BBFans my big brother videos and DVDs
