With a bulgy tum, thinning hair and the face of a grumpy little troll, John Sergeant has everything it takes NOT to be a sex symbol.

Yet at the age of 64 that is exactly what he’s become to thousands of adoring women who watch him strut his unprepossessing stuff on the Beeb’s Strictly Come Dancing.

He always reminds me of Jo Brand.

The man has charm and charisma - that's worth WAY more than any of that superficial stuff.

Let's all dance to Strictly Come Dancing John Sergeant’s tune

There's a little revolution going on in Britain that might just save us from ruin. But it’s nothing to do with tightening belts and getting back to basics as the gasping economy gives us all a reality check

And it’s not the platitudes from the politicians that can restore our faith in human nature.

It’s all down to John Sergeant’s tango on Strictly Come Dancing.

Never on the dance floors of human conflict has so much been achieved by just one grandad in shiny shoes and a comb-over.

What has captured our hearts is that someone has stood up in the midst of all this manufactured beauty, and dared to resemble a garden gnome.

On John’s first night, I roared with laughter watching him heaving his tubby chops around the dancefloor.

Now, I’m applauding with respect. Because what he has achieved is phenomenal.

He’s shown the world that there’s life after retirement. That older men are beautiful and loving - hey, and maybe even sexy.

All eyes are on podgy John because it’s not whether he can do a samba or a waltz. It’s the fact that he’s doing it at all.

And the public voting for him is a national thumbing our noses at all this empty glitter that engulfs us.

Maybe it’s the start of something good.

Aww....absolutely.

I must confess I only ever see snippets of 'The Dancing', as my mother-in-law calls it. I'm almost amazed that the show can still achieve phenomenal ratings, given that the only things that seem to change, year in, year out, are the celebrities.

But any time I see John, it warms the cockles of my heart. He's the perfect antidote to Arlene Phillip's grating voice shouting 'FIVE'.. ::lol::
