No I haven't listened to Shaws show, doubt I will. He was okay with Kate and Lucy to temper him, but he made me cringe at times, and I'd guess late-night he'd be even worse. Never enjoyed cringe-making entertainment, really.

A new look for the Kerrang home-page, with a nice pic of Kate, prominent. A vodcast of her too, for those that may be interested :D

Yeah, & I agree.
Caught a few hours of Tim Shaw's show on Absolute Radio last saturday night when I got in.
He is very intelligent, but his more than considerable ego means he has a blind spot. IE 'Absolution with Tim Shaw' is basically Kerrang's Asylum & The Morning After, with Tim Shaw doing the same things he did on those shows, such as 'shut-it Nan' & the excruciating 'bad to the bone' - with additional 'adult' humour.
Tim Shaw is still using his wife Hayley for 'set-up' recordings on his shows. Glad to hear Tim Shaw is still under the thumb at home.

If Tim Shaw wanted to, he could be the greatest DJ on commercial radio - he is brilliant interviewing guests & a sublime ad-libber - but his ego wants something different. :-?

As regards Tim Shaw & Kate, Tim Shaw is still very intelligent & could still be a person Kate should seek for advice.

Anyway, a new dawn for Kate on Kerrang! Radio's Drivetime next week with OJ Borg.

Kerrang! Radio are running jingles this week for Kate & OJ Borg's NEW Drivetime show next week - starting Monday 20 October 2008.
We'll have to wait and see how this partnership works out.
Interesting, especially as Kate has intimated that she sees using January for her House DJ career abroad next year - but you never know?
We'll have to see.
I said Kerrang! Radio rate Kate highly.
Best wait till Christmas to see how this partnership works out.

It might be a prelude to Kate leaving-she could go in January and then just not return.I'm enjoying it more now-laughing about friday's show.Cocky Nobby saying he was slating leaving and Kate saying she and Lucy were rating that.The testicle eating storython.I even found an ad funny-someone being chatted up in a garage forecourt"do you come her often""no" At 85 mpg she doesn't! Doom with a view.the youtube runners-Sian and Wendy.I must be in a silly mood today. ${

Yeah, that bit with the balls had me cracking up too. Almost seems a shame to fiddle with it, when it's fully in it's stride.

Yet, I did think that some of the features where getting a bit old, and so having new ideas may be good. I'm sure in a more zoo-format there will be more chatting about what they get up to in their lives, so if you feel you'll miss the insight of the reverse-charge game, there'll be more then enough chatter to make up for it. {@}

anywhoo, more about mr berg here.

Interesting pic with the link?!!

RadioToday

Incidentally, or maybe not, the new Rajar quarterlys are out Thursday, from info on that site.......

Good link-from what Gordon says it sounds more encouraging...but then he would say that anyway.Good piccie! :D

Programme Director Gordon Davidson said “The new show will be bigger and better than ever, fronted by personalities to rival Radio 1. Kate has found her home on Drive and OJ will be a great addition, together they will host one of the UK’s most entertaining drive shows”.

We await to see what Kate & OJ Borg are like together??
Interestingly, Kate did say on the breakfast show a couple of weeks ago that she went on a date to Castle Donington, Derbyshire?? ;)

Tim Shaw does his thing as boss on Absolute Radio - but Kate has proven on Kerrang! Radio that she is a far better leader than a sidekick. In fact, Kate ain't no sidekick, ever.

Kate's Kerrang! Radio boss, Gordon Davidson, is right - Kate has found her natural home - not particularly on Drivetime - but on Kerrang! Radio. The whole z-list hype you see in The Daily Star & zelebrity magazines means nothing to Kate even though Kate could have made huge money. Kate could have made a fortune, lived very comfortably with all that - but she only validates herself in the mainstream media regarding a broadcasting career - hence the fact that she moved to Birmingham & sees little of her family whom she adores.

Still, Kate must be a joint leader on her new Drivetime show.
You can be a leader & co-presenter on a radio & TV show, but you can't be a leader & sidekick, something Tim Shaw's ego didn't understand.

Also, Kate's comments about taking a break from Kerrang! Radio in January 2008 to concentrate on her DJ career aren't quite clear yet.

Kate's career as a rising star on the House DJ scene is looking after itself.

Personally, as I've said before, Kate could possibly reach the top regarding her House DJ career, & that should be her priority, but to establish a career in mainstream radio(without z-list hype) has also been an ambition.

Kate spoke very excitedly this week about moving into her new Birmingham flat in two weeks time, so she obviously feels that Kerrang! Radio is her immediate future at least.

Listeners switch off but hold 100.7 closest to their Heart

100.7 Heart fm held onto its place as the number one commercial station in the West Midlands despite losing weekly listeners in the last quarter.

Meanwhile Kerrang! has recruited Nuts TV presenter OJ Borg to join Kate Lawler on the new Drive show.

Kerrang! Radio programme director Gordon Davidson said: “Kate has found her home on Drive and OJ will be a great addition. They will host one of the UK’s most entertaining drive shows.”

As usual with Kerrang! Radio, a lot of 'set-ups' going on.

Could be another Kerrang! Radio set-up for a silly blind-date thing Kate is doing on Drivetime.
From what Kate has been saying & stuff in the last couple of months, Kate has obviously been seeing somebody.

Ofcom decision out.Our Tim the foolish hero. {@}

The broadcaster said the presenter concerned was experienced but had admitted that he had run the competition as alleged. However, he had told Bauer that he believed he was “doing the right thing by rewarding a loyal and deserving listener”, who he knew both suffered from a chronic and debilitating illness and was a fan of the Rolling Stones.

Bauer said that the presenter had contacted the listener the day before the broadcast to let him know there would be a feature of interest to him the following morning. The presenter explained the mechanic of the competition to him but the listener said that, due to his medical condition, he was not confident that he would be able to respond quickly on air. To show the listener that he was capable of a quick response, the presenter decided to record him as if on air and play it back to him. However, this did not convince the listener. Wishing to give him the opportunity to win that he was denying himself, the presenter decided to play the recording on air the following morning, ‘as live’, pretending that he was the first caller to the studio. The presenter told Bauer that he had had no intention of using the recording unless the listener called on the day. However, after his co-presenter had asked the question, the presenter noted that no calls were lined up for selection and decided to play it. During playback he noticed two attempted calls but answered neither.

Yeah, thanks Vilt :)

Interesting stuff, really. and explains all the fuss.

I think Kate and especially Lucy were lucky to get away with that, to be honest. In today's climate, with recent happenings in the world of entertainment, they probably could of both been fired as well

Tim Shaw clearly fell on his sword, and took all the blame, so Well done him, he was almost certainly mostly responsible, but the blame could of been shared.

I actually think it's all worked out for the best really. Shaw is clearly not a daytime radio presenter, he just doesn't know when he's crossed the line. The Morning After were struggling to get guests, and at times the interviews were cringe-makingingly antagonistic. Just not suitable for the time-slot, in my opinion. He's much better to do a night-time show, and to pursue his burgeoning telly-box career, which seems to be going quite well.

Kate and OJ have found a groove now (so to speak), and is a much more even partnership, and is quite promising. Fresh ideas have started to work, and he's got a much less scabrous style, which let's face it won't hurt considering certain topical events in radio.

Hi
Thanks to Vilt for clearing up an episode which could have damaged Kate's relaunched radio career - an episode of which Kate played no part.

When Tim Shaw was sacked, Kerrang! Radio boss Gordon Davidson recorded a statement which was broadcast the next day, saturday, the day after Kate's last 'official' broadcast as Breakfast show presenter before moving to Drivetime(Kate has covered for the breakfast show twice since, of course). In the broadcast, Gordon Davidson made it very clear that 'no other presenter' was involved.

It's not a case of 'every cloud has a silver-lining', but Tim Shaw & Kate wouldn't work as radio partnership - Tim Shaw has to be boss & Kate has never been a sidekick in her life.
Kate is an immeasurably better leader.

However, I don't write-off Tim Shaw.
Even though some of his 'comedy' misses by miles & his attitude towards Kate was adolescent at times, Tim Shaw was a person who had his eye on Kate for a long time & convinced her to move to Birmingham to work for Kerrang! Radio.

It's not surprising that things have worked out for Tim Shaw. Things do for that kind of person, because at the end of the day, despite his faults/flaws & blind spots regarding what is actually funny, he can do radio standing on his head.
He loves his notoriety(not sure what his wife thinks when the mortgage has to be paid!), something he never tired bragging about in a vain attempt to impress Kate.

Tim Shaw is annoyingly talented and as you say ,Rince, has got a nice career going on television, especially with Channel 5's Fifth Gear, alongside his late night weekend show on Absolute Radio.
I did say he would go national.
