Vodafone's decision to walk away from their sponsorship of the England team leaves the game facing a challenging 2009, when contracts of two other major sponsors are due for renewal. Vodafone confirmed on Tuesday they will end their £4 million a year sponsorship of the England team after next winter's tour to South Africa.
It is unfortunate timing for the England and Wales Cricket Board that as the country is gripped by recession, contracts with their two other title sponsors – NatWest and Npower – are also due to end.
