We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video Games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games Like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your Imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens. It was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!
Note forgetting the Philips game controller where you moved white blocks up and down for bats to hit a smaller block for games like tennis and solo.
Then remember the very primative computers like the ZX80 and ZX81 where you had 1K of memory and no colour graphics ! The Atari 2600 was rather advanced compared to the Sinclair computers.
Even the early PCs only had 128KB memory with a Green screen monitor and where very S L O W. With very small hard drives of only a few MB .8 inch or 5.25 inch floppy disk drives. And operating systems that would easily fit and work on these drives.
Now where have computers that even the miltary couldn't match back then with 3 to 4 GHz processors ,many GB of memory. At least one operating system that is so blouted and slow that you need very high end components before you get any decent performance ,by todays standards. And graphic processing that Hollywood would have liked even 10 years ago.
One thing that was about before the Internet took over were Phone BBS's which were as source of programs and information but the modems were slow. The slowest I remember were 9600bps compared to todays broadband 20Mbps.
In the mid 90's with 14400 modems the Internet was both slow and expensive.
