Kate: brilliant spotlight interview & front cover! in this month's M8 dance magazine. Pictures are Kate's rather iconic commissioned photos from her dance career Myspace.

I've always said it was important for Kate to get recognition & credibility from the dance magazines like mixmag, M8, DJ & International DJ.

This is an incredible achievement. Not because Kate needed to prove herself - 99% of comments from serious clubbing peeps on the internet who've actually attended Kate's gigs have been favourable - but because, as M8 acknowledge, Big Brother(its 'characters') and associated z-list hype are looked on rather negatively.

Excellent interview btw where Kate is actually asked intelligent questions about her career as a House DJ. Kate acknowledges that it's been a battle to get some clubs & promoters to book her because of Big Brother, but that's their loss.

You can see what the cover looks like there, I do think the pics they're using for this mag and promos for the record are the most striking Kate's had done, as PiL said they've been on her myspace for a while now. So much better then just another underwear shoot.

Looks like Egypt's been cancelled.

Does not matter - the important fact is Kate was there being a DJ!

You can't emphasise enough how much Big Brother is despised & ridiculed - and the hard work & travelling Kate's had to do to be treated seriously on the dance scene.
Tell that to The Guardian & smoke it.

The fact that Kate Lawler actually got a gig at The Ministry of Sound can not also be underestimated in career terms.

Well I aint been away-just tired and hassled with nothing much to say.I usually check in-so like to read whats said.The "news"is just too unfortunate for words.
Anyways Kate has done a spooky photo shoot which she's posted onto Myspace for use on the music publicity.Some of the shots remind me of Bladerunner imagery.

Agree about the terrible news - the 'celebrity' promotion about
all this makes me feel very uncomfortable - but what can you do?

Never crossed my mind before but there is a bit of Daryl Hannah about Kate in her new pictures on her myspace.

That's what infuriates me about Kate and her self-depricating style on Kerrang! Radio.
She is absolutely striking looking - but never really exploited it.

Those pictures she had commissioned for her myspace, the one's M8 showed for her interview were absolutely amazing.

Well the sleb promotion, is fairly annoying, but the main tragedy is surely that a young woman will lose her life in a most terrible way. Everything else is secondary. The papers today can't report news anymore because we all get our information from many different sources, so they have to create these cause célèbres to generate their own momentum, it's worked for and against Jade before. So we get this ridiculously overblown reaction, the "Dianafication" of Jade is assured, like it or not. Anyway my first and last comment on the subject........

Anywhoo, I agree that quirky works best for kate, I think the lad-mad thing has been distracting from the photoshoots she should be doing. Very Chloe Sevigny look about her, in my opinion.

Also, Kate was the headline set in the second room at MoS. I've often wondered whether it was better to be the main set on a secondary stage, rather then be a fourth or fifth name on the main stage!??!

I have no idea myself as my knowledge of dance music can be written on the back of a stamp.

The Guardian will say 'Kate Lawler' went down the obligatory lad's mag route & will be very begrudging towards her achievements as a credible dance dj - because they hate people like Kate - a working-class woman from Big Brother who actually only validates herself by career.

The lads' mag thing isn't really true either because Kate did one lads' mag shoot in the two years after BB3 & last appeared in a lads' mag 4 years ago when promoting Celebrity Wrestling.
Ironic because most female housemates considered 'sexy' who followed Kate after BB3 have went down the lads' mag route because that is mostly what they've been offered.

The promotion of Jade Goody since BB3 ignored the fact that she was pretty vile on the programme - & indulged in a massive sympathy vote - which worked.
It's true that Kate & Jade's upbringing are not comparable; Kate had a great life growing up & Jade didn't, but don't ever let the media fool you; their sympathy promotion of Jade Goody is & has always been pathetically insincere & patronising.
Kate's no angel but neither is Jade Goody or most of the other Big Brother housemates, or those that work in the media
However we are told a young mother is dying - a fact that the media have brushed aside in this vile exploitative 'celebrity' promotion.
And the tragic fact is that Jade Goody wants it.

It's irrelevant I know but interesting in a kind of way that Kerrang! Radio have never broadcast the news of Jade Goody's plight on Drivetime & The Morning After, the shows I listen to, & neither has Kate referred to it.
We all know that the z-list media will only be really interested in the opinions of Shilpa Shetty & Kate Lawler.

As for the lad-mag thing, you're quite right she hasn't done that many shoots, about 5 or 6 + Ann Summers, whilst the likes of Channelle, Imogen or Orlaith had probably done that many in the first six weeks of their respective leavings. Yet, like it or not, those pics are recycled in almost every national newspaper (and the Daily Star) and are used whenever she's mentioned. Perception is everything, I'm afraid.

Anyway this thread is generally used for Kate's DJ career, probably best if we keep it at that

Always value your input Rince, but my comments were all about Kate's career.
I only mentioned Jade Goody because Vilt did - & you can't escape the fact that the z-list promotion of Jade Goody - for the saddest of reasons at this time - is applicable to Kate.

Because Kate with the exception of Love Island chose the career option. And that makes Kate all the more interesting. Jade Goody said herself she was surprised to see Kate Lawler in Love Island because Kate had previously made comments about not liking 'Reality TV'.

I think Kate has only appeared in lads' mags 4 times in 7 years - though the option was always there.

Yeah well, tbh I'm just not interested in Jade or BB3 anymore, I do agree with much of what you say, but surely in a Kate-themed thread your only preaching to the converted. vilt didn't directly mention her name either.

Kate's moved on, think it's a good idea, if we do
