Hi,

I'm back. A round trip of 24 miles.
Think the course time was just under 1.5 hours.
Left home just after 7am and arrived back 9.40am so with about an hour in total going to and coming from the event and maybe 15 minutes with registration and the wait at then end in the queue to get the medal it works out quite well.
I was certainly one of the first back but I made a point of not rushing and free-wheeling where there wasn't any need to pedal. I did get off and walk up part of one very steep hill as even in 1st gear I hadn't got the energy to pedal up it.
So sitting here drinking lots of water having a rest.

So far I've raised £137.01 and still have another £27 to collect.

I've update the justgiving page.

My Cousin has had her final course and we are waiting to hear if it has shrunk her cancers. If it has then she'll get the drugs from America otherwise the outcome will be rather bleak. If she gets the drugs to could have a few more years but she knows the chances are that the cancer will probably return but at least she might get to see her son grow up.

I'm told she is putting a brave face on and has told her mother not to cry for her.

The first time she got cancer she completed the Race for Life and then the following day went in for treatment.

But it appears when we saw her at Christmas this second bowt was already with her but she hadn't told anybody.

When we hear more I'll update you all.

Thanks.

I know it's Lung and Bowl cancer but not the exact type other than its a rare form that doesn't respond to normal treatment.

She's a fighter and trying not to let it stop her doing things. I heard that she is working where possible as a classroom assistant. But time well tell.

Just a note to any returning members who might have read this thread and might wish to add their support. The "Justgiving" web page remains active until October.
To date I've raised approaching £200.

I thought I'd keep you updated on this subject.

As you may remember this all started because my Cousin had a rare form of cancer that didn't respond to normal treatment. And then that it had spread.
Well she managed to get into the Marsden in London and after for further treatment was given one of the new wonder drugs. Unfortunately she had an adverse reaction to the new drug and has spent the last week in an isolation ward in a poorly condition. We heard today that she has been given around 2 weeks but it may be sooner depending on her condition.

She had done well to maintain a part-time job up to a few weeks ago but was becoming more and more exhausted so we new that things weren't good.

I'm not sure what state things are in or even if she is aware of what's happening but hopefully she won't have to suffer too much and that things there course quickly. But as many known the final days tend to be drawn out and unpleasant.

My fundraising will continue with this year's cycle event for which training will begin shortly.

I had wondered how your cousin was, Larry - thank you for taking the time to let us know.

Very sorry to hear this very sad news. She did indeed do well to keep working till a few weeks ago. God bless her, I hope and pray that the medical team will be able to alleviate pain and suffering. I do believe that death is another type of birth - the start of our true and eternal life, where there's no more suffering.

My thoughts are with you and all her loved ones who will miss her so much. x

That is such sad news larry, thoughts will be with her, you and your family. It sounds like she has been a very strong lady.

Thanks. Yes she was.
Tomorrow she moves from the Hospital to a Hospice and according to her mother (my ex-Aunt) she isn't expected to last more than a couple of days.
