Further 'probable' swine flu case

Another "probable" case of swine flu is under investigation in Scotland, Health Minister Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.

She said this was a male in the Ayrshire and Arran Health Board area, with no connection to the three confirmed cases.

He travelled from the US to Birmingham on Monday, and then onto Prestwick on Thursday, by which time he was showing symptoms of the virus.

She said a further 19 possible cases were also still under investigation.

Thousands take 'swine flu sickies'

Thousands of people are using the swine flu crisis as an excuse to take a sickie, employers claimed last night.

Flu-related absences have soared almost 20 per cent and experts believe the number will rise substantially after the bank holiday weekend - costing employers millions.

The news comes as two new cases of swine flu were confirmed today - inlcuidng one of a six-year-old girl

Mexico to begin lifting flu curbs

Another nine UK cases of swine flu have been confirmed taking the total to 27, the Health Protection Agency has said.

Five of the nine diagnosed with the H1N1 virus were year seven pupils from Alleyn's School in Dulwich, London. It is the fourth school to close.

US Schools reopening today; flu watch shifts to parents

With all the Puget Sound-area schools that had been shuttered because of swine flu reopened as of today — and the illness looking no more threatening than regular flu — the front-line defense against the spread of the virus now is shifting to parents.

The message: Parents should check for symptoms of flu and keep children home if they appear ill.
