Maddie doc draws ratings

Madeleine McCann disappeared two years ago, and viewers are still interested in her story – witness the fact that Channel 4's doc Madeleine was Here was the most-watched Cutting Edge programme so far this year.
The hour-long show on 7 May attracted 2.3 million viewers/ 10.5% share at 9pm on C4, with another 262,000 later on C4+1.

The show also made headway with key demographic groups: 43.7% of viewers were ABC1s while 22.8% were aged between 16 and 34.

McCanns to sue Portuguese officer

The parents of Madeleine McCann are to sue former Portuguese police detective Goncalo Amaral for defamation, according to their spokesman.

He said Kate and Gerry McCann are to take action over "entirely unfounded and grossly defamatory claims".

Mr Amaral led the inquiry into the disappearance of Madeleine, but was removed from the case in October 2007.

Madeleine, of Rothley, Leicestershire, was three when she vanished from the Algarve holiday flat on 3 May 2007.

In a statement, the parents of the missing girl said: "We - together with our three children Madeleine, Sean and Amelie - are taking this legal action against Goncalo Amaral over his entirely unfounded and grossly defamatory claims."

"[They were] made in all types of media, both within Portugal and beyond - that Madeleine is not only dead, but that we, her parents, were somehow involved in concealing her body."
