So we've reached Day 11, and I'm not sure why I'm still here. By this time last year I had given up on BB9, mainly through the producers being stupid, but they can't help that it seems - they do stupid things every year.
I was one of many who would sit watching the live feed for hours. I usually knew what was happening, was able to see the tasks being played out, saw any disputes between HM's, watched them eat, sleep and sunbathe. After all, they don't do much else.
Along comes BB10. No live feed. I've stayed up until stupid o'clock to watch what I can, knowing that what we get in the early hours is as much as C4 wants us to have. For the first few nights we've seen the HM's stay up until 3am or later. Last night, despite what was the biggest argument so far, they were all in bed and asleep by 2.30, except Sree, who had decided to take a chair rather than bed.
My problem is that I don't know where I am a lot of the time. I have deep sympathy for those who have only ever watched the highlights shows, as it must be a whole new world. Only getting to see an hear what actually happened the previous day. Highlights are what the producers think we want to see, not what really happened.
C4 refuse to back down on the live feed issue. Not enough people watched it and it costs too much. We're the only country with BB that does not have live feed, according to reports. I've not been and checked that for myself.
C4 say they will keep adding clips and news to their website. Except the 'news' is usually well behind it happening. By the time C4 report it the people who watch the overnight feeds will have forgotten it. It's always old news, which is useless.
The newspapers and magazines are way behind as well. I was looking through some of the headlines just now and would expect to read those stories wrapped around my fish and chips, it's very old news a lot of the time.
The papers rely on what C4 give them, so that explains a lot of it. The red tops say that are on the ball with BB, but I shudder when I see what they are publishing - just like the highlights show, well behind the events themselves.
Maybe I should stop watching 'live' if that's the problem - let me mind time-slip at least 24 hours, and watch the highlights shows. That way the newspapers will make sense, as it's in the same time-frame. But then it's no better than watching Corrie, or some other pre-recorded show. What is the point of saying it's Big Brother if it's only a heavily produced and edited clip show.
Quite simply, I'm not enjoying it. So what is the point in staying tuned. C4 are killing the show, my head hurts as I try to keep track of who is who, what they've done and everything else. The overnight feed tells me a little bit of what has happened. C4's website fills me in a bit more as they get round to publishing stories. I get a little glimpse of things I've not been able to see by way of the clips. Later than that I see the highlights show, if I remember it's even on, or read the newspaper headlines. That could be two days after something happened.
I do not watch BBLB or BBBM, again because it's a strained effort to push what BB want us to see. And, I can't stand George Lamb. He's just not funny.
But it's not Big Brother as I knew it. Maybe I had a strange desire to know what was happening as it happened. There was a sense of that last night as Lisa and Marcus yelled at each other, followed by dissapointment as the live feed was cut for about 40 minutes.
I read that there was a family in Merseyside that had rigged their own house with cameras so people can watch them 24/7, I've looked, it's usually much more exciting than C4's version. No sound dips, no cuts in feed, no ad breaks.
I don't want to be staying up until it gets light again, just to get a couple of hours of actual action, when so much is missing from that part of my knowledge. By the time C4/E4 show the feed we've lost around 20 hours since I last knew what was going on. I often do not know if something major happened, like a task, that HM's are going to be talking about.
I'm starved of BB, that's what it is. I get bored stupid during the day, waiting for a snippet of something to appear on a website. My Big Brother experience just isn't happening. I don't think I can stand the wait of relying on the highlights and what little I am given is not enough to make me want to stay with it much longer.
Yes, I do have a life beyond this. I'm not going to be glued to the screen for 24 hours a day for the three months it's on, but I don't like missing things either. If the live streaming was there, I'd have it on, I'd be happy that I was in touch with events, and not having to fill the gaps in later.
It's like a jigsaw puzzle. You get all the edge pieces and put them into place, but then it can be days later before the full picture is seen. Worse still, a lot of the vital pieces are not given to you until the next day, and you could find that some of the puzzle has not been put into the box.
A fine example is Sree and the cut on the head he had - which was not even reported on the BB shows! Maybe it's something and nothing, but I would like to know why he had a dressing on his head...
I don't know how much longer I can stay interested, so if I vanish you'll know it's the boredom of BB10 that has got to me...
