It's Friday in the Big Brother House and everywhere is a flurry of make-up, swanky clothes and random hair straightenings.

Quite why the rest of the housemates indulge in this pre-eviction ritual of preening and perfecting, when the furthest they'll be going tonight is to the storeroom to collect some grog, is a bit of a mystery. But they do. And they love it.

Dogface has peeled herself off Kris, and she and Karly have squeezed themselves into tiny posh frocks, Cairon's got his best hat on, Charlie's applied a fresh coat of gel to his hair. Even Angel's let her hair down. Honest.

Tonight's kick-out is the first eviction proper for the housemates. It's the first one they've had where everyone was a full housemate, the first one they've nominated for, the first one you've had all week to vote for, and the first one with you lot outside, giving 'em grief!

The housemates knew it was a biggie, and the pre-eviction atmosphere in the House was tenser than Sree's bikini bottoms yesterday. As they sat waiting for the results, Halfwit bounced about like a man possessed. By song. He ran through a handful of songs, wringing his hands, deep breathing and talking to himself, while the rest of housemates either clapped along, picked their nails or avoided his gaze.

The mood in the House was sombre as Sophia ducked into the Diary Room. There was a lot of huffing and puffing, sighing, lip-chewing and very little talking.

"It's part of the game innit, that's what happens," said Kris, as Sophia was called to the Diary Room following the announcement that she was the second evictee.
