3 more NYC swine flu deaths raise toll to 15

Three more people - including at least one child - have died of swine flu in New York City, bringing the total number to 15, the city health department said Thursday morning.

The announcement came on the same day the World Health Organization told its member nations it is declaring a swine flu pandemic - the first global flu epidemic in 41 years.

MINISTERS considered putting Britain into quarantine in a bid to stop the swine flu pandemic reaching the UK.
The shocking disclosure that experts wanted borders closed came as another 83 Scots cases of the virus were diagnosed yesterday — the biggest daily increase so far.

But plans for isolating Britain were scrapped when calculations showed it would only delay the spread of the bug by eight weeks.
