The child from south London had "serious underlying health problems", NHS London has said.

Last week a 19-year-old man from south London, also with underlying health problems, died after contracting the virus.

Family trapped by swine flu scare

AN EAST Anglian family have spoke of their ordeal after being placed in quarantine in China because health officials have diagnosed their granddaughters with swine flu.

Roger and Marion Aylott, along with their son and daughter-in-law and two granddaughters, have been moved to a motel and masked officials sent to guard them to make sure they do not leave.

The family has been told they must stay indoors at the motel in Wenzhou, in the Chinese province of Zhejiang, for seven days before they can fly back to the UK at the weekend.

UK's fifth swine flu death

A man in Essex has become the fifth person in the UK to die from swine flu, and the first who didn't have any other health problems.

The patient died today at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital health officials said.

Experts still don't think there's any reason for people to worry.

Chief Medical Officer Sir Liam Donaldson, said although the disease isn't dangerous for most people, there are others who are more at risk.

UK swine flu cases third worst in the world

LONDON, England (CNN) -- The UK now has the third highest number of cases worldwide, after the U.S. and Mexico, according from the British government data.

Lab tests show that there were 9,718 confirmed cases of the virus in the UK, a figure that's just behind Mexico, which had 10,262 cases as of Wednesday.

The U.S. currently has the highest number with 33,902 lab-confirmed cases, according to latest figures from the World Health Organization.

Across the world there have been 94,512 cases of swine flu since it was first reported in Mexico in April with 429 deaths, WHO figures show.

Fourteen patients are now thought to have died in the UK after contracting swine flu, the country's Health Protection Agency reported.
