Twiggy Turned Down Strictly

Model and television star Twiggy has revealed that she turned down the chance to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the 59-year-old star said that she had been approached about the show on a number of occasions.

Twiggy said: "Every year they ask me to do that programme, but I just can't do it and I never will. It makes me feel sick just at the thought of it."

The star has previously worked as a judge on US reality show America's Next Top Model.

Dancing Strictly on Saturdays

The new series of the BBC TV talent show will ditch its previous format - which saw the main show hit screens on Saturday, with the results broadcast on Sunday - in an effort to attract new viewers.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "We wanted to make 'Strictly Come Dancing' an unmissable TV event so we are packing all the action into one dramatic show. Audiences will be watching, voting and seeing who is in and who is out on Saturday night."

The new format will mean the show will air at a different time to its ITV rival 'The X Factor', which is spreading its main and results programmes over Saturday and Sunday for the first time this year.

An insider told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "The BBC are going back to the original format of having Strictly all on Saturday. It works well and the excitement builds through the night so hopefully it will work in the ratings battle with 'X Factor'.

"We think the big night for entertainment is Saturday and so Strictly will now dominate the schedule."

'Strictly Come Dancing' has made several moves to appeal to a new audience this year, including swapping old judge Arlene Phillips, 66, for singer and former winner Alesha Dixon, 30.

Stars rumoured to be taking part include 'Footballers' Wives' actress Zoe Lucker, 'EastEnders' star Kara Tointon and ex-actress on the soap Natalie Cassidy.
