We wanted tango, Joe Calzaghe, you gave us Flymo

If Martina Hingis was the worst of the eight celebrity dancers who competed for favour in the opening round of Strictly Come Dancing, then Bruce Forsyth will be 21 in October and Ola Jordan’s rumba dress was suitable for wearing in a place of worship.

Yet, incredibly, the former Wimbledon champion is the first dancefloor casualty of the 2009 season, crashing out after the face-off to some bloke from Crimewatch. Robbery, you would call it, if the irony wasn’t too rich and the emotions weren’t so raw.

Let’s face it, Hingis wouldn’t have been anywhere near that dance-off if the second-night phone voting hadn’t hauled the frankly geriatrically stiff Joe Calzaghe off the ropes, where he was slumped after a battering from the judges.

Jade Johnson among the favourites to win BBC's Strictly Come Dancing

Former European long jump silver medallist Jade Johnson is 10-1 joint-third favourite to land victory in the latest series of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, reports spikesmag.com.

Johnson, who stands at 6ft 1ins tall, produced two sizzling routines with dance partner Ian Waite in last week’s show and was awarded 52 out of 60 to place second on the overall leader board.

Judge Bruno Tonioli commented on Johnson’s performance by saying: “Those legs could crack walnuts. I’m envious! Nasty and naughty and I loved it.”

Calzaghe looks awful on Strictly

I feel for Joe Calzaghe. He must be so embarrassed. His performances on strictly come dancing have been awful. The guy is moving around the dance floor like a fork lift truck.

Sorry, correction. I feel more sorry for his dance partner. Her toes must be in agony. The Welsh man seems to have carried none of his boxing footwork into the dance game!

Maybe Calzaghe should think about a ring return and face some of the fighter’s that have have been waiting for him for years. Carl Froch, Kelly Pavlik, Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright, I could go on and on. Even in his last performance against Roy Jones I was so surprised that Jones did not seem to want to fight back, or push on after the knock down? Strange?

Dunwoody ‘to fall at first hurdle’

Retired jockey Richard Dunwoody is the bookies’ favourite to fall at the first fence this weekend in Strictly Come Dancing.

According to Betfair, the three times champion jockey from Co Down is the most likely contender among the second batch of dancers to be thrown from the saddle, with odds of 6-4.

ALI HIDES HER SCRUM DANCING ANGUISH

Gorgeous Ali Bastian has split from her rugby hunk lover.

She hid her heartbreak over Nick Kennedy for weeks and continued to dance on the show.

The Bill star Ali, 26, refused to reveal why she and Nick, 27, parted after three years. But he said their break-up was amicable and he was in the audience to support her on Strictly's opening night.
