Better a bush kangaroo than Craig Revel Snore-wood

Well, what a barnstormer of a competition we had this weekend. At this rate, we might as well call it Strictly Come Controversy.

Poor old Jo Wood. She's not the best dancer of the bunch, but she didn't deserve the catty remarks Craig Revel Snore-wood came out with this week. It wasn't so much that he branded her a 'bush kangaroo' for her Viennese Waltz, but it was the snooty way in which he said it.

Arlene Phillips blames Joe Calzaghe’s exit on his romance with Kristina Rihanoff

Former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips believes Joe Calzaghe’s romance with partner Kristina Rihanoff was the reason he got voted out.

The 66-year-old apparently said that the pair’s relationship attracted so much attention off-screen, their passion on stage was “meaningless”.

She said: “The romances this year – Kristina and Joe, Ali and Brian – are out there for all to see so it becomes meaningless on the dance floor.

“There is no mystery, no haunting quality.”

Does Ali Bastian have an unfair advantage?

Strictly Come Dancing contestants are said to be complaining that Ali Bastian has an unfair advantage on the show.

The Mirror reports that the former Hollyoaks actress attended stage school for three years, where she received various ballet and dance training.

One of the show’s professional dancers allegedly said: “It does give her a bit of an advantage. Her natural talent has already been honed by several dance tutors.”

BBC Moves Strictly

The BBC is moving Strictly Come Dancing to an earlier time slot - but rejected claims it was over fears that The X Factor was attracting more viewers.

The two shows have clashed for periods of more than an hour at times, leaving frustrated fans having to make a choice or hop between channels.

But on October 31, the overlap will be eased to 45 minutes, with Strictly starting at 18:50 and ending at 20:45, and ITV's The X Factor starting at 20:00.

A spokesman for the BBC said the earlier slot had nothing to do with The X Factor and the move was to make way for a new series starring impressionist Jon Culshaw.

He added that Strictly is a "key part of our Saturday line-up".

The overlap is expected to decrease naturally as more hopefuls are knocked out of the competitions, leading to shorter running times.

The X Factor hit a new high with its biggest ever audience on Sunday.

The show drew a peak audience of 14.8 million, beating even last year's final.

Saturday's edition of The X Factor drew an average audience of 10.9 million viewers, 1.6 million more than watched the equivalent episode last year.

On BBC One, Strictly Come Dancing was watched by an average of 7.8 million viewers.

Ditched Zoe's out of Luck

------------------------ Image

STRICTLY judges branded Zoe Lucker's exit from Strictly Come Dancing last night "ludicrous".

The former Footballers' Wives star lost out after a shock public vote left her and Ali Bastian in the bottom two.

But Zoe and her partner James Jordan had their samba praised by the panel, with tough judge Craig Revel Horwood telling her: "You have an enormous amount of rhythm and your timing is very good."

They received 32 out of 40 while The Bill actress Ali and her partner Brian Fortuna got a respectable 33.
