BIG Brother star David Ramsden is to brighten up the town when he switches on on Dewsbury's Christmas lights.

The former Mirfield Free Grammar School pupil and reality TV celebrity will only receive travel expenses when he turns on the illuminations on November 28.

And he says this is because he is 'proud of Dewsbury'.

"I am happy to do this," he said. "Dewsbury is where I am from."

David, who came third in this year's Big Brother show on Channel 4, will be paid expenses to travel to the town as he is now working mainly in the London area.

Christmas lights switch on

On November 28 Dewsbury will be illuminated by Big Brother contestant David Ramsden, helped by Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist Gareth Oliver and the Pulse radio roadshow. The fun starts around 4pm, with the switch being flicked at 5pm.
