Strictly Dancer Arrested

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ricky Whittle has been arrested on suspicion of assault in Liverpool city centre.

The 29-year-old actor is in police custody after an incident in Duke Street in the early hours.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said the incident involved a collision between a car and a male pedestrian, who suffered minor injuries.

Whittle has a regular part in Channel Four soap Hollyoaks and has beren tipped to win the BBC One dance competition.

Merseyside Police confirmed a 29-year-old man from Billinge, Greater Manchester, was being questioned over the incident.

The actor is partnered with Australian dancer Natalie Lowe in Strictly and has scored highly throughout the 10 weeks of the competition.

It is still unclear whether his arrest will affect his appearance on tomorrow'ss live show.

Strictly Come Dancing favourite Ricky Whittle narrowly escaped leaving the competition on Saturday night the day after being released on bail by police investigating an alleged assault.

No mention of the incident was made by the judges but they did give him a tongue-lashing for his rock and roll performance.

Despite some guidance during rehearsals from The Fonz star Henry Winkler, Whittle slipped up both at the beginning and the end of the dance. He failed to get the public's support either and was forced to fight for his place in the quarter finals in the dance-off.

It was the popular Natalie Cassidy and partner Vincent Simone who left the show after the judges decided not to save them from elimination. But the audience proved she was still the public's favourite with a standing ovation as she and her partner got the news from the panel.

SNAPPER MAY SUE STRICTLY CONTESTANT

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ricky Whittle may be sued by the photographer he allegedly ran over, lawyers said.

The Hollyoaks actor was arrested in the early hours of Friday after an incident which followed a party for cast of the Channel 4 drama at a Liverpool bar.

It is alleged that as Whittle, 29, got into his car to drive home, his vehicle struck a photographer, Steve Farrell, and left him with minor injuries.

Mr Farrell is now taking legal advice from Manchester law firm Pannone in relation to a potential civil injury claim.

Ricky Whittle charged with dangerous driving

STRICTLY Come Dancing and Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle has been charged with dangerous driving.

Whittle, 29, from Billinge, was charged in relation to an incident last month on Duke Street in Liverpool city centre.

He is scheduled to appear on January 15 2010 in Liverpool Magistrates Court.

The Hollyoaks actor appeared before Liverpool magistrates where he denied the charge.

He will reappear at the court on March 12 for a committal hearing to Liverpool Crown Court
