MCELDERRY mania swept the region, as X Factor hopeful Joe came home.

The 18-year-old South Shields lad arrived at his house in Westoe with his mentor, Cheryl Cole, before visiting his former school, Harton Technology College.

He then headed off to The Sage Gateshead to perform a secret gig for invited guests.
