Lord Sugar is on the search for his first ever Junior Apprentice. From over 28,000 applicants, 10 candidates will compete for a tailor made fund worth 25,000 pounds to kick-start a career in business. The teens are set their first business task - to sell 500 pounds worth of cheese at busy London market stalls. Working against the clock to make as many sales possible at the highest price, both teams are desperate to avoid a showdown with Lord Sugar in the boardroom.

Sir Alan Sugar is to put a group of 10 teenage contenders through their paces in a young version of The Apprentice.

Junior Apprentice will feature five boys and five girls aged between 16 and 17, who will be set a variety of business tasks by the self-made multi-millionaire.

Due to be aired on BBC One next year, the five-part series will give one budding entrepreneur the chance to win a prize worth up to £25,000 and tailored to his or her individual career prospects.

Sir Alan said of the show: "It is my long-held belief that we should be doing more to promote enterprise among young people, as the future of our economy relies on them."

The founder of Amstrad, who left school at 16 with no qualifications, said: "I passionately believe that the key to business success lies in hard work and common sense and that we should encourage our young people as much as possible."

Candidates from all social backgrounds are being encouraged to apply, whether they are straight A students or have no academic qualifications.

"Understandably, the contestants won't have any previous business experience, but all I want to see from them is an entrepreneurial aptitude and an enthusiasm to succeed," Sir Alan added.

Operating in the same format as the original show, the losing team will end up in e format as the original show, the losing team will end up in the boardroom and the project manager will have to choose two people to join them in the firing line.

Alan Sugar Frustrated

Alan Sugar has questioned the decision to keep The Apprentice off the air during the General Election.

He said he was "frustrated" by the delay, because Andrew Lloyd Webber had been allowed to stay on TV, despite his vocal support for the Conservatives.

Lord Sugar's latest BBC One show, Junior Apprentice, begins on Wednesday.

It will feature 16 and 17-year-old aspiring tycoons fighting to win access to a fund of £25,000, which will be controlled by Lord Sugar.

Last summer, the BBC Trust ruled Lord Sugar's government role did not lead to a conflict of interest - as long as safeguards were observed - after the Conservatives made a formal complaint.

The BBC then chose to delay the 2010 series of The Apprentice until after the election.

Of Lord Lloyd-Webber, the BBC said: "We advise prominent figures working with us to avoid intervening in the political debate at times like this.

"However, he is at liberty to express his opinions, which he has made no secret of in the past."

Unlike Lord Sugar, however, the theatre impresario has no official political role - despite his seat in the House Of Lords.

BBC Junior Apprentice won by Arjun Rajyagor

Maths whizz-kid Arjun Rajyagor has been crowned the first winner of the BBC's Junior Apprentice by Alan Sugar.

The 17-year-old A-Level student, from Essex, beat finalists Zoe Plummer, Tim Ankers and Kirsty Cleaver after a final task to market bottled water.

Arjun has won £25,000 - which will be controlled by Lord Sugar - to launch his business career.
