The X Factor is being investigated by the TV watchdog over concerns it encouraged viewers to download songs by guest stars Diana Vickers and Michael Buble.Ofcom will look at whether the hit show broke broadcasting rules around the promotion of commercial products and could issue a fine as punishment.
It is understood that the regulator launched the probe after one of its investigators spotted the presenter Dermot O’Leary telling viewers how to download songs by the guest performers.
On October 17, when Vickers - a former X Factor contestant - performed, host O’Leary told viewers: ‘If you want to download Diana’s single, the details are at ITV.com/XFactor.’
He made the same remark on the night of Canadian star Buble’s performance on October 24.
