Matt Baker's Strictly backstage practice

The 32-year-old star - who is currently a guest presenter on the BBC One show after Jason Manford quit earlier this month - revealed he has persuaded co-host Alex Jones to help him rehearse for the dance contest.

He said: "Alex and I have little dances around the dressing room. She's interested in it so you never know if you'll see her there next year!"

Following Ann Widdecombe's exit from the contest, Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly host the first of this weekend's two semi-finals, in which Pamela Stephenson, Kara Tointon, Matt Baker, Gavin Henson and Scott Maslen take to the floor in a bid to win over judges, as well as the viewers at home. In tomorrow's show, the celebrities have their final chance to impress before the voting lines open, with the results being revealed on Sunday.

Judges becoming as unreliable as The X Factor's

We all know that Simon Cowell and the other X Factor judges rarely get it right. For example, who can forget their praise of Katie Waissel's appalling version of Kings Of Leon's Sex On Fire?
On the other hand (foot?) Strictly's judges have been paragons of integrity. Until Saturday's show, that is, when they all (including the always impeccably candid and correct Craig Revel Horwood) missed two obvious mistakes (and didn't even mention them) from Kara Tointon who ended up with three tens from a possible four.
A few minutes later Matt Baker's flawless dance earned just two tens. It was plain wrong and offers up an unpalatable possibility.
Were the judges reminded that Kara (usually a fab dancer, by the way) was the last young, pretty female left and that the programme could not do without her?
