Business secretary Vince Cable is to star in a Christmas edition of Strictly Come Dancing.

Dr Cable will partner ballroom professional Erin Boag.

He said: "I have had a couple of practice sessions with Erin, who is absolutely gorgeous and a great teacher. I am looking forward to it."

EastEnders actress June Brown is pne of the contestants for a Christmas special of Strictly Come Dancing, it has been announced.

The actress, who at 83, the oldest contestant so far in the BBC One show, is among five celebrities who have signed up.

Fern Britton, Ronni Ancona and John Barrowman are also to be on the show. Business Secretary Vince Cable has already confirmed that he is taking part.

June Brown will be partnered by Vincent Simone. She said: "I'm terrified and apprehensive about what I've let myself in for, I must be barmy and I'm not sure what's come over me...

"I just hope I can remember the steps to the routines. I'm looking forward to working with the professional dancers and the other contestants."

The five will be performing different dances to impress the Strictly judges and studio audience to collect the special trophy.

Fern Britton, who will team up with professional Matthew Cutler, said: "Strictly Come Dancing is my family's favourite programme. I am really looking forward to the spray tan, false eyelashes and sequins."

Lib Dem MP Mr Cable - partnering Erin Boag - said: "Strictly has always been a secret, or not so secret, passion of mine. I hope that by taking part in the show I can inspire others to get up and do something they have always wanted to have a go at."

Ronni Ancona will team up with Anton du Beke and John joins partner Kristina Rihanoff.

Pre the election Vince was hailed as the economic genius who could solve our debt crises, post the election he was too dumb to even realise he had a car to take him places noew and started walking from No 10 and it took days of deffering for him finaly to vote for the new students fees that he himself was propossing. I dont think dancing will make anymre of a dent in hos already spiralling level of respect from his peers.
