Lark Rise to Candleford
BBC1, Sunday 09 January 8:00pm - 9:00pm 1/6, series 4 There are catastrophic consequences when a postal order is unsigned as this pretty, bucolic drama returns. It might not sound like much, but in Lark Rise to Candleford we know that even the most innocuous-sounding of mailmatters - a mis-delivered letter or a lost parcel - can be volcanically disruptive to village life. It's the fault of simpering postmistress Dorcas Lane (Julia Sawalha), but she was acting only in the best interests of one of her customers, as ever. Now, even Dorcas sees that she interferes too much in the lives of others, so she decides to close the lid on her jar of handy aphorisms. In other words, she's going to keep her gob shut in future. Yet Dorcas hasn't turned entirely to stone; the arrival of a handsome, impecunious, widowed blacksmith with manly forearms sets her girlish heart a-flutter. He needs work and, luckily, Dorcas just happens to own a vacant forge. Perfect. Elsewhere, a tearful seamstress has her heart broken in Pontefract (haven't we all?) and Lark Rise villagers march on Candleford after a robbery.
