Dancing On Ice: The J WordBy Claire Murphy
J is for Jennifer, cruelly out of the competition even though she was improving and wearing the tiniest outfits week after week. Mums won't know her, dads won't be allowed to vote for her, Hollyoaks fans probably think this was too lame to watch.
J is for also for journey: the must-have quality that keeps a less able contestant in. Which is why to a certain extent Jeff will do pretty well, as he has a lot of public support after Jade's death, and why Johson (another J) stays, while better skaters are in the bottom two. As the song nearly says, Don't Worry, Beharry.
J is for Jason, queen of the ice panel, who ought to learn how to apologise without making a situation worse. It's also for jugular, where he strikes, often unnecessarily. When Karen rose out of her seat in her skyscraper gold heels to confront him, it was like watching the campest-ever episode of Jeremy Kyle.
So what if it's written into Jason's contract to play Mr Nasty? That really isn't enough justification for this jarring routine. As Nicky Slater could remind him, J is also for jobcentre.
