'The X Factor' auditions will come to Newark April 14

Auditions for Simon Cowell's highly-anticipated singing competition "The X-Factor" come to Newark's Prudential Center April 14. Solo artists or vocal groups can sign up at the show's web site.

But here's the rub... Unlike "American Idol," the first time a potential contestant auditions, he or she must do so in front of the thousands in the audience. In addition, there will be no age limit in the talent pool. That said, potential contestants need to be at least 12 years-old.

As for prizes? Cowell's next superstar will win a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music.

Wristbands must be obtained from the venue the day prior to auditions. Additional audition details, including eligibility requirements, are available at the web site. Hopefuls should check back regularly for updated information, rules and registration forms.

The Fox TV show will air in September.

Other audition cities for "The X factor" are as follows:

• March 27: L.A. Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California.
• April 7: Bank United Center in Miami, Florida.
• April 20: Key Arena in Seattle, Washington
• April 27: Sears Centre Arena in Chicago, Illinois

Cheryl Cole's accent loses her US X Factor job

Cheryl Cole has lost out on being a judge on the US 'X Factor' because of her British accent.

The 27-year-old beauty, who is from Newcastle, has flown to Los Angeles to discuss her role in the US version with TV bosses, but is reported to have been dropped from plans because she is not famous enough Stateside.

A source told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: "People just don't know who she is over there and people struggle to understand what she is saying."

Dermot O'Leary - No US X Factor

Dermot O'Leary will not be hosting the US version of The X Factor, it has been confirmed today.

It is reported that Simon Cowell wants to adopt a dual-host format and is seeking a “non-conventional” female singer and a male “pin-up” musician.

Despite missing out, Dermot insists he is not too upset as he fared better than other British hopefuls.

He said: “I am obviously disappointed that I didn’t get the American gig. I would have loved a crack at it.

"At least I was the only Brit to make the shortlist.”
