Simon Cowell confirms Mariah Carey for US X Factor role

Simon Cowell has confirmed that Mariah Carey will be involved in the US X Factor "in some form".

The music mogul is still to confirm who will be on the judging panel of the US version of the show.

Cowell, has only confirmed former Def Jam boss L.A. Reid so far but Cheryl Cole is said to be in contention for a place on the panel.

The 51-year-old originally stated that Carey would not be involved in the programme due to her pregnancy.

However, while chatting to radio presenter Jackie Brown, Cowell revealed that he had met up with the diva.

He said: "I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows. I met her recently and she was on great form.

"And her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with."

There is still a question mark over British judge Cheryl Cole - will she or will she not be a judge on the US show?

Simon Cowell said that Friday May 6 will be the deadline and Cole's position on the talent show will be announced then.

Cheryl Cole lands US X Factor job

Cheryl Cole has landed the job as a judge on the US version of The X Factor.

After months of speculation she was today confirmed to appear in the show - which could potentially make her a huge star in America.

The 27-year-old singer will take her place alongside show boss Simon Cowell and former record boss LA Reid.

"I can't wait to get started," said Cole today.

Cheryl Cole Confirmed For USA X Factor

Simon Cowell has today confirmed that Cheryl Cole will be on the judging panel of the US version of The X Factor.

The 27-year-old Girls Aloud singer, who has worked on the past three series of the UK show, will start filming this weekend.

"I'm so excited to be taking part in the American version of The X Factor," Cole said in a statement.

Cole will join Cowell and former record boss Antonio LA Reid on the US panel.

"I'm thrilled for Cheryl," said Cowell. "She is massively excited about this show and has been fantastic to work with.

"She is also a complete brat. Most importantly, this girl can spot talent."

Speculation has been rife over the last few months as to whom would appear on the US X Factor show.

Cole's relatively low profile in America had seemed to rule her out of contention in some pundits' eyes.

It is not yet known whether the singer will play a part in the UK version of the show when it begins later this year.
