The Hotel
Sunday 17 April - 1/8, series 18:00pm - 9:00pm
Channel 4 The Proposal The owner of the Damson Dene Hotel in the Lake District, who bears a distracting facial resemblance to Education Secretary Michael Gove, says his establishment caters for "Mondeo Man... ordinary visitors". So it won't come as any surprise to learn that The Hotel is a fly-on-the-wall docusoap of the type that was fashionable in the mid-1990s, the sort of series where everyone has their role: the jester (in this case eastern European Amos, an inept and clumsy assistant); the Sensible One and Potential Breakout Star (Wayne, the hotel manager), and the Fiery One (the chef, if the trailer for next week is anything to go by). The romance is provided by the guests, a nice young couple called Elizabeth and Daniel. A very nervous Daniel wants to propose in the hotel's garden (aw, bless him). But will his beloved say "yes"? And will it ever stop raining?
