Yes it is quite amazing that a starling would stand up to a sparrowhawk.

That is lovely Larry. ()^ I reckon they are nesting and looking for food for the babies. I saw the first juvenile blackbird being fed by it's Dad in the garden the other day. I have also seen a couple of Great Tit babies being fed. They are both usually the first ones to be seen, as they start earlier.

I have been away for a few days staying on a farm and it was lovely to hear and see the wildlife there. One morning I looked out of the window and saw a Mistle Thrush on the grass just outside the window.

Thanks.

I've got pictures of what looks to be a young Mistle Thrush. When I get a chance I'll upload them.

The Grey hood is the clue according to the book I looked in.

Nice pictures. That looks like a dunnock to me, but then I have never seen a juvenile Mistle Thrush. Mistle Thrushes do start breeding early, so it is possible it could be I suppose. Dunnocks also have a grey piece round their face. Dunnocks are usually quite shy, but a bit bolder at this time of year for the mating season. Usually you may never really notice they are there, as they just wander around the bushes, but they tend to be more noticeable at nesting time. They have a nice song not that much different to a wren or robin. I often think I can hear a robin and then look and see it's a dunnock. I have attached a photo of some dunnocks taken in our garden in April last year. They are not very clear on there, but see what you think.

I think your correct. The only thing is that the call was short.

Having looked at the pictures in the book for a Dunnock I have to say the drawings are bad. The photos are much better on Google etc.
