Eurovision Song Contest

Graham Norton presents on BBC One as 25 countries compete for the coveted title of the Eurovision Song Contest winner 2011, on Saturday, May 14.

From each of the two semi-finals, 10 countries will have qualified. France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy are automatically qualified to take part in the Final.

European hosts Anke Engelke, Judith Rakers and Stefan Raab present on-stage while Norton provides commentary for the UK.

This year Blue represent the UK with their song I Can in a bid to bring home the Eurovision title. They face a live audience of 35,000 in the Dusseldorf Arena, and an estimated worldwide TV audience of over 100 million.

Ken Bruce also presents coverage of the show live on BBC Radio 2.

Jedward reach Eurovision Song Contest final

Irish teen twins Jedward will compete at the Eurovision Song Contest in Germany after winning through the semi-final stage on Thursday night.

John and Edward Grimes, 19, who found fame on The X Factor, performed their song "Lipstick" in the run-off.

They will now take part in the competition proper on Saturday and have been tipped by some bookmakers to win.

Ireland, with seven wins, is the most successful country in the contest's history but has not won since 1996.

Before their performance on Thursday, the twins said they were not nervous at the prospect of singing before their biggest ever audience.

The pair promised to be "the Pavarotti of Eurovision".

Amongst their rivals on Thursday were another set of twins, Slovakian duo Daniela and Veronika.

The 20 successful semi-finalists will be joined by the so-called "big five" countries - Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UK - who qualify automatically.

Blue 'will emigrate’ if they fail to win Eurovision

Expats around the world are getting together to watch their home countries battle it out at Eurovision tommorow. But will the members of Blue, the band chosen to represent the UK, really be looking to become expats themselves if they fail to win?

Eurovision Odds Go Crazy as Jedward Seem More Likely To Win 2011 Contest

William Hill are shitting themselves a bit today as Jedward odds have shortened so much that it leaves them facing a £100,000 pay out to just one punter if the little imps pull off a win. We’ve got the full odds below, but it’s worth having a look at Jedward first of all. The bookmakers originally offered them at 25 to 1, but as with their X Factor performances, as time went on it looked like they might just do the impossible. The punter we mentioned about put a £5,000 bet on them at 20 to 1. To be honest we’d still take the five grand, but might consider a smaller punt on them before tonight’s show.

“Over the years there have been some great gambles on the Eurovision but none to match ‘Jedmania’. Both home nations are genuine contenders but a Jedward victory would spark a seven figure payout and we are desperate to see them topple! said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.

Interestingly you can also bet on one of the twins falling over during the performance at odds of 6 to 1 and we reckon that’s the safest bet you could ever make.

So Here’s the full odds

6/4 France, 11/4 Ireland, 10/1 Azerbaijan, 10/1 UK, 12/1 Denmark, 14/1 Estonia, 16/1 Bosnia Herzegovina, 18/1 Sweden, 20/1 Austria, 20/1 Germany, 22/1 Finland, 22/1 Hungary, 50/1 Iceland, 50/1 Ukraine, 66/1 Georgia, 66/1 Russia, 80/1 Slovenia, 100/1 Serbia, 100/1 Switzerland, 100/1 Romania, 125/1 Greece, 125/1 Italy, 150/1 Moldova, 200/1 Lithuania, 200/1 Spain

We really have no idea how France is in first position though. Here’s their entry:

Vote Jedward to kill off Eurovision once and for all

Devil’s Advocate: Enough of letting this dire spectacle live on, it’s time to use Jedward as a weapon of mass destruction to stop Eurovision in its horrifying tracks.

Azerbaijan takes Eurovision crown

A pop duo from Azerbaijan has won the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in which finalists from 25 countries took the stage.

Nigar Jamal and Eldar Gasimov, who go by the name Ell/Nikki, earned the most points in Saturday night's grand final for their classic pop ballad with a catchy refrain, Running Scared.

It was the first time that Azerbaijan has won the contest in the competition's 56-year history. This year's contest had entries from 43 countries.

Gasimov said he was "the happiest man in the world right now" after receiving the trophy from Germany's Lena Meyer-Landruth, who sought to defend her title in Dusseldorf.
